It's all over the radio too, I'm surprised this isn't all sub judice till after a court case or coronial hearing...
I think they've decided to go back to practicing journalism in the mould of Cary Grant in His Girl Friday - but without the class.

I've been quite shocked today about the reporting of homicide on the front page of the Herald, I must say.
and Denis Welch on the weekend newspaper market
He is tremendous value, isn't he? You should have him more often.

Or starting an aerospace industry from nothing, yes.

In fact today the paper has reprinted the figure:
While it laid out $1.775 billion yesterday, the Government expects its eventual loss will be reduced to about $600 million once the company's assets are realised over three or four years. That is included in $900 million it has set aside to cover its net losses under the guarantee.
It's become less clear (at least to me) if this money set aside came entirely from the levy.

Heh, well, yes. I have a test for this. Look out of the window on a fine day: is the sky nearest the horizon a nice shade of brown? No? Then you're fine.
-
It's also a lot less than the $900m printed by the Herald yesterday.

I think young Peter Cook was not out of Betty Grable's league at all - he was quite dashing in his day (esp. around the time of Bedazzled).

Banks impassioned statement that Brown wanted to divide the city up on race
Not the V8 thing again, I beg you.

Instead we're gifting several hundred dollars a head to gamblers too stupid to understand that high interest = high risk.
That's not quite true - we also gave money to people who invested in SCF after the guarantee came into place, knowing that they had nothing to lose.
Bastards.

The NZ Herald piece on the announcement includes the following line, which nicely answers my question from last night:
"There is $900 million in the scheme, calculated to be enough to cover all the companies which signed up to it."
