It will be "Himalaya" "He tells the truth!" next.

I didn't think Russell would resort to the "you're all dirty pornographers" argument at those concerned with openness and how much control is exerted over users and by proxy to the Internet by manufactures like Apple.
I'm a little confused. Apple destkop and notebooks computers are far less restrictive, correct? What's the problem if one class of devices happens to be, so long as the others aren't? Plus android is in fact open source. Is Apple morally obligated to also keep its environment open? It seems to me that it's been a useful point of difference over the years between MS and Apple and Linux environments, and that one could settle for the degree of control they preferred.

I insist: if you subtract wage and salary earners - who can't cheat - and the unemployed - who don't earn - I doubt it would amount to 42% and they'd all have to be evaders, which seems a little harsh.

Waipu is off SH1, so do you take a detour just to make the joke?

In Italy commentators say that 42% of the population are tax evaders
So everybody is not either unemployed or a wage and salary earner? Thank you for the vote of confidence there, commentators.

I'm not sure the PAS comparison is very illuminating, but the microwave one is. The iPad is putting itself forward as an appliance, not a computer. And actually if you go back to read Negroponte's Being Digital, it's entirely consistent with his vision of smart machines designed to do certain tasks very well, and invisibly. Not to do all tasks that you could possibly get a computational device to do, and very opaquely, which is still what we expect of a computer.

Again, sorry, if you can use styles and master documents, and your thesis is in the humanities, Word is just brilliant. What's not to like?

That's what Filament really is about, isn't it? I mean, surely.

I find it invaluable when writing my blog, I must confess.
