she only offered to help if asked

TVNZ employees hooked her up with the family, didn't they? I can only hope that they did so out of some misguided sense of kindness. Unfortunately, I can also imagine that their motives might not necessarily be so pure. To which I say: feh.

  • Field Theory: Like a punch in the face,

When he's not fronting a blues band, he's doing 'real police work'. I can hardly wait!

( Songs for Beethoven is a hilarious live EP)

Was that recorded when he was the support for Blur? I was at that show. Was Joel Tobeck on bass...?

My memory of the period is somewhat unreliable, but I think the Sisters of Mercy beat him to it.
and Strawberry Switchblade who had a minor hit if my, also unreliable, memory is correct, in the mid 80s

This is all grist to my 'Dolly: She's So Underappreciated!' mill. (One of my ambitions is to go to Dollywood and buy ridiculous tchotchkes.)

He used to crash parties and Maseratis.

(It occurs to me that Darcy Clay was probably the first of the 'rediscovering "Jolene"' people, wasn't he? So there, Jack White!)

  • Up Front: Outraged of Sockburn,

That suggests that attractiveness is far more complex than basic evolutionary biology would suggest.

Thank GOD you said this, because I started writing a post three times and became entirely too tired to finish it. The basic gist was 'GRARGHevolutionarybiologyevolutionarypsychologySTABBY!', so yours put it much better.

  • Something Completely Different,

Speaking of big rockets - they're about to run one into the moon.

And lo, everything ever predicted in the brilliant late-90s low-budget HBO sketch comedy series Mr Show shall come to pass:

(Watch out for Sarah Silverman three minutes in.)

  • Hard News: Miracles just rate better, okay?,

    how should I interpret this

Well, I interpret it as fucking gross. That 'psychic' person is exploiting that poor family for her own benefit, and the relevant TVNZ employees are either stupid or assholes. Or both.

  • Something Completely Different,

    1. The 1978 Shatner 'Rocket Man' is possibly the peak of western civilisation. When I first saw it I thought I was going to levitate with joy.

    2. If working in a library was anything like 'Elektrobank' sounds I would be stoked. Also, I own possibly the most incongruous piece of memorabilia ever: a Chemical Brothers *coffee mug*. Just... why? (No one has ever adequately answered who it was doing that synthetic type of alphabetapsychedelic funkin', either.)

  • Something Completely Different,

    Libraries, boring ?

Ah, but I don't work in a library any more! (At least for the moment. Until I get pulled back in like Al Pacino in Godfather III, and my soul dies horribly, Sofia Coppola styles.)

  • Something Completely Different,

I've flown big rockets for fun for over 20 years

I can safely say that this is a sentence I never expected to read on PAS.

Also, it is at moments like these that I become overwhelmed by how profoundly boring I am. :)
