Hard News: Complaint and culture, in reply to
Sorry. It is a hobby horse that I am afraid fires me up. Sorry sorry sorry.
Yeah, and being deliberately dismissive of women as people, and comparing them to cows and sheep is something that really fires me up. As is Epic Mansplaining of the type you're doing here. Or comparing breastfeeding to sport, as if women just need better "coaching".
You're right, you don't have tits. I do, and I would still never tell another woman that she just needs a "more positive attitude".

But then, being a mere male what would I know. I’ve got no tits to get into a tangle.
But that wasn't patronising, right?

I can't talk to breastfeeding and/or midwifery, not being a mother, but if I may pimp my mates, Isabel wrote a brilliant breastfeeding piece for the Lady Garden a while back.
Could we perhaps be ‘supportive and encouraging’ to mothers rather than ‘accusatory and patronising’? You catch more bees with honey, and all that jazz.
Oh, don't be silly, Danielle. You know women can't be trusted to know what's right for themselves or their own bodies and/or offspring. Even when it's other women doing the patronising.

Hey, the Pacific teams are very much underdogs.

I reckon one could smoke while performing at it, and some judges might give you extra marks for doing so (is that how scoring works in RD?).
One absolutely could not smoke, while playing roller derby, unless one wanted to cause burns to oneself, and other players. Also, it would likely cause one to be off balance, which is a recipe for serious injury.
And no, that's not how scoring works. At all. There are no judges.
Points are scored when the designated scoring player (the "jammer") of a given team laps members of the opposing team;[1] hence offense and defense typically occur simultaneously.[2]
Seriously, I have watched a lot of sport in my life, and derby is well and truly one of them. Once you look past the fishnets, it is freaking hard out, athletic, skilled, and requires immense fitness.

Oh, I am all for shearing as a general rule. I assume farmers know more about that than me. It's just that in competition shearing, the sheep always seems slightly distressed.
But then, what would I know?
-
Field Theory: How's that working out for…, in reply to
What are your thoughts on shearing? Because I want to get behind that, but I always worry for the sheep?
(I once did a live cross from a woodchopping competition at the chch show. I nearly squeed on air.)
