  • Random Play: My City In Ruins,

The Domain was my recent discovery as well. At the risk of repeating myself, protect every little inch. Screw those Carlaw park advocates who want to take - just a little bit - for parking. Philistines.

To be fair, they'd be taking a little bit of the domain that no one really uses. And it's not for parking. The promise is that they'll build parking underneath the stadium that will help remove cars from the Domain.

  • Hard News: Lying liars again,

I'm not necessarily convinced that this comes from high up in the Iranian govt., I'll wait for further evidence, but we do know reasonably sophisticated Iranian weaponry is getting into Iraq. Either no one in the Iranian govt. knows about this or someone does. I find it hard to believe that no one does.

Clearly there are Iranian weapons in use in Iraq - it would be surprising if there weren't. But nearly everything about this particular presentation stinks, and these people have long since drained any reservoir of trust they once had.

Meanwhile, the US position is completely chaotic. They're trying to assemble a Sunni support base in surrounding countries while they talk up a Shia government in Iraq, while they blame the violence there on a neighbouring Shia government when they're not blaming it on a Sunni Islamist group. It's lunatic.

Your patience in these people is touching Neil, but they really are not fit to govern.

  • Southerly: The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth,

Pt Chev. was well serviced by trams and was the last stop (hence the round-about) at Coyle? Park and the tram line fragments at Western Springs. I heard, it being the last stop, many late night trams (10,00pm!) were missed, so requiring a couch-stop, (ahem).
There are legions of dusty old Bring Back The Tram-ers! out there, or there used to be.

Well, the Western Springs tram is soon to run all the way from Motat 1 to Motat 2. It's a start ...

But restoring the old tramline through Ponsonby and K Road would be easier. Getting rid of that was a rather poor decision. Imagine a Hero Tram Party this month!

  • Island Life: Page 3 Boy,

I will - tried to RSVP but the web form said the event was full... no doubt because it knew it was me and HATES ME! :P

It's not the form, Juha. It's the web that hates you ...

  • Island Life: Page 3 Boy,

Oh, and Morgan - saw your blog comment about maybe texting in questions to the panel. The same thing occurred to me afterwards - I might investigate that. It could be fun.

  • Island Life: Page 3 Boy,

Perhaps the webmaster could consider putting up a cancellation service on the site for those who have to pull out at the last minute? - Russ?

A few people did that by email, but the problem is that the barrier is a lot lower for a free event - people aren't losing anything if they get lazy and watch a DVD instead. We had 400-plus people say they were coming in Auckland, just under 300 turned up. (Not you Mark - you had a good excuse ...)

The trick is, I think, loading up with about 30% more RSVPs than we really want. Of course, the first time we do that, everyone turns up and there's not enough room ...

How about a ferry service from Cornwallis to Helensville, now that's Fitzcarraldo-ey!
In the bad old days you could catch a ferry from Onehunga wharf to New Plymouth - direct.

I'd settle for one from the CBD up the harbour - that would be a mint way to get home to Pt Chev from a night out. Although I guess there would be tidal issues ...

  • 69, a spoof of 24 set in small town New,

Since posting I've had some remorse - does something like this belong here? Its hardly iconic and no weetbix were involved in the making. Discussion welcome, I won't take it too personally, even if its for the chop.

You're kidding. This is most welcome.
