  • Hard News: Limping Onwards, in reply to Islander,

So during the 1980s when Labour were selling the family silver you had no problem with giving your vote to them?

PS You don't have to answer this, as I feel how some one votes is truely their business and no one elses

  • Hard News: About Arie, in reply to Sofie Bribiesca,

Sofie, there are strict rules about diversion, it is only given once for example, it could be that Arie is not eligible

  • Hard News: Limping Onwards,

The one thing that I think worries the Labour front bench is what happened to Mike Moore
Poor old Mike got thrown to the wolves after a lost election, they seem to have forgotten who threw him and why.
Internal squabbling is how I remember it going down

  • Hard News: Limping Onwards,

I just dispair for Labour at the moment, a lack of judgement and a failure to back them-selves will lead to a rightful drubbing in the next election
An election that can be won as anybody who has done the numbers can see
But no, just a bunch covering their own butts & salaries and certainly not worrying about the down trodden

  • OnPoint: Everything has changed until 2014,

From Nationals point of view it may seem simple, the money either comes from extra tax from it's key supporters or cuts from Labour supporters
    Simple really
And when Labour was running the show (during much better times) the question of what to do with surpluses was solved by not dropping tax but by buying votes via WFF and more money to public service
I feel neither response was the correct one for the time but I don't have to get voted into office

  • Legal Beagle: Hidden in plain sight, in reply to andrew r,

How often did depositions result in a "no case to answer"?
Not very often in my experience, are there any figures on this point?

It has always seemed to me that defence lawyers like juries because they can be swayed or more truthfully bamboozled; let's not forget that one definition of the defence lawyers is "people paid to lie for you" They don't often get into the dock and swear to tell the truth

Prosecutors claim they have to work with one hand tied, so does this lead to better justice or just more people getting off?
And which do we as a society prefer?

In fact play two games, one here and one in Tokyo

    Indeed Hadyn, an excellent idea
As to the other point, who goes to expensive rugby games these days anyway?
People who can afford to fly to Auckland or who have friends there

  • Hard News: About Arie,

I rather hope someone does some decent , dear I say it, detective work and finds out just how this boy got beaten
I hope it was not the police taking the law into their own hands, or any variation on that theme

  • Hard News: What Now?,

And I hope the people calling for the retention of heritage building remember the call to save quite munted building after the first quake, those would have certainly fallen in the second, possible with loss of life
Quite a number of these heritage buildings are really faux gothic, cute, meaningful to Chch people but no great loss
Lets start again and do a Napier (where I was when the quake to place incidentally) or failing that some more green spaces till we make up our minds on what is needed
