  • Up Front: Respectably-Dressed Sensible…,

    Back to topic
The R Francis golden rule on commenting on women:
    Don't
Except in a postive way, so "You look good in that" but never "You look hot in that" except in extraordinary cases, as in it might work with Emma but I would have to know her quite wll before I attempted it
This has been learnt at the hands/tongues of three sisters, one wife, very few girl friends and lots of women friends

  • Hard News: Cheer Germ,

Are weekends, long or average, people who work don't know how lucky they are
Me, I am off to Stewart island, herding cats (exchange students) and I can see some fresh blue cod in my future

  • Southerly: One Hundred and Thirty-one…, in reply to Lucy Stewart,

Oh bugger I was going to suggest changing to to living on the other side of the University, sounds like camp fire smoke, it just follows you around

Great Idea David, definitly a goer and now is the time to push the concept
The only down side is the spread out nature of Christchurch, something the reconstruction is probably going to make worse as busines flee from central city and the reason I much prefer Dunedin for retail( we live half way between them both)

Any thoughts on the nice Europen idea of rental bikes you can drop off at different stations

  • Legal Beagle: Voting Referendum: Jus' Sayin',

I voted for MMP last time (apparently the only person in NZ to admit that) and I feel I will vote for it again. The alternatives seem to range from sexually transmitted disease to an accountant’s wet dream with the people in charge not able to grasp the finer points
MMP could do with some tiding up, I am not happy with the power it gives parties via the list, so maybe a smaller list and more electorate seats and of course the threshold which if lowered could lead to a multiplication of smaller parties and instability. So maybe try lowering it and see what happens

  • Hard News: Someone has to be accountable…,

I am sorry but when I hear

It will cost the Auckland Council more than half a billion dollars over eight years to build new computer systems to conduct its business

I wonder what was it is really going to cost and just how much extra is being stuck to the rate payers
Remembering an IT expert sucked 20 million plus out of the Otago Health Board and no one noticed!
So question; how much was it going to cost just to keep the old structure going and was it going to hell in a handcart anyway?
Windows 98, give me strength, sounds like someone was keeping costs down for a short time gain

  • Muse: Hooray for Wellywood (Really!), in reply to Islander,

    Much later
Thank you Islander, I was aware of those reasons (and that's plenty) for not being happy about the Museum, just wandered if there was even more

  • Muse: Hooray for Wellywood (Really!),

Islander, can you tell us more about what offends you about the kawa of the museum or point me to where I might find out more?
    Please

  • Hard News: The Political Lie, in reply to Deborah,

    Nice quote Deborah
I find it interesting reading through the thread that people seem to hear the lies of those they oppose rather than those of the politicians they support
Sacha and Craig spring to mind although Craig is as always an equal opportunity man when it comes to putting the boot in

  • Field Theory: Tuesday Drinks,

All proceeds from this beer go to Christchurch and Queensland flood charities

That sounds as good as reason as any and better than most to crack open a brew

  • Hard News: Three months after,

We drove past Chch just after the quake (checking my sisters who live both sides of town) on our way home
There was short debate on taking a good look around rather than taking the bye-pass and apart from what we would tell out grandchildren about the Quake damage no positives and that wasn't enough
So thank-you Russell for doing the dirty work for us
