  • Hard News: Friday Music: Gobshite vs Adele, in reply to Clint Fern,

And these two collaborations with the Chem Brothers are far more interesting than Adele.

Yeah, they're quite good. But they do both sound like mashups of an Oasis song with 'Tomorrow Never Knows' :-)

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Gobshite vs Adele, in reply to Clint Fern,

Rolling sounds like a Moby knock off

Well, apart from the fact that it’s a song she wrote and sings herself, rather than an old folk record someone burgled some samples off.

Perhaps you’d prefer the Jamie Xx take?

Or the fully bashment style refix of that one?

This is what I think is interesting about her – those songs play into areas a long way from the mainstream audience for her original albums.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Gobshite vs Adele, in reply to Bart Janssen,

Her voice is at its best and the transition to her speaking voice is hilarious, she smiles, she kicks off her heels, she waves to people in the audience and she so very much communicates her sheer joy at being there. And the audience love her. You simply can’t watch that concert without feeling that joy.

The recent 'Adele at the BBC' show was good too. I like the way she doesn't worry about rough edges in her vocal performance. She's real.

  • Feed: Feast, in reply to R A Hurley,

fair point, Russell… please go ahead and consign me to the fire using your mod power… it’s entirely deserved…

Cheers. But I was serious about hearing about non-meat Christmas feasts – it will interest people.

PS: And I didn't necessarily disagree with you. I don't pretend to be able to make a good moral argument for eating meat (or even dairy products).

  • Feed: Feast,

UPDATE: The below is now an explanation of why the first few comments have been deleted. It wasn't going anywhere ....
    ---

A post and discussion about Christmas feasts is highly likely to contain mention of meat.

If you disapprove of that, or simply don’t eat meat, you can suggest non-meat feast delights. That would be great, especially if they’re things you make yourself. It’s always good to hear people’s stories.

But clicking on a Christmas feast post and delivering a “meat is murder” lecture really isn’t useful or appropriate. Give it a rest, please guys.

Great for a weekend tootle, or a fitness program… but not really a commute?

Yeah, that’s certainly true if your commuting destination is the CBD. It’s a function of the fact that full-fledged cycleways are a byproduct of motorways.

Otoh, it’s a bit different if you happen to live in Point Chev. For us, it’s like the cycleways converge on our collective doorstep.

And the Nelson St cycleway feels ten times safer than when I’ve ridden down Nelson St in the traffic.

I used to do it sometimes. You really needed to be feeling confident.

He’s gone from merely trying for clickbait, essentially trolling, to actually defining groups of others (the poor, the unemployed, maori, cyclists) that according to him it is OK to hate and denigrate.

Worth firing off a few BSA standard complaints about denigration, perhaps?

Not remotely worth it. It falls well within the standards for broadcast opinion that the BSA applies. And, y'know, it probably should. Having a state agency wade in on expression is not something you should easily do.

But that doesn't stop the rest of us publicly debunking and lampooning him. He definitely deserves that.
