Hard News: Change for the Better, in reply to
Out of curiosity, what is the planned route to connect Onehunga to the central city cycleways?
The SH20 (southwestern) cycleway tracks the motorway, so it currently comes as far north as Mt Roskill.
It will connect with the SH16 (northwestern) cycleway when the Waterview Connection opens – or maybe a little after, because NZTA are being sulky about it. (They tried to get out of having to build a cycleway over the tunnel stretch at all, but an independent inquiry told them to get with the programme.)
The main problem will remain with the part of the northbound journey which includes an off-putting climb up to Hillsborough Road.

This is the sanest argument I know for having a GoPro on top of your helmet
Come to think of it, I suppose there would be insane arguments for doing so …

AND next year the Nelson St path will run right past my front door. I’m truly living the dream.
A friend has been riding to work from Morningside to Fairfax in the former Telecom building on on K Road.
She's about to take up a job at the new NZME hub. That would have been a tough ride, but the Nelson Street cycleway takes her pretty much to the door. It's like the bloody thing was built for her!

this one-off ABC/Screen Queensland doco, out about a month back, with another take of the Saints – the Stranded Documentary 2015:
Good to see this on YouTube now. The political scene-setting is really interesting, parts of the diversion into the Brisbane music scene less so. It’s a good complement to the Great Australian Albums one.

Speaker: Judith Collins and the…, in reply to
I think Grant Robertson was correct when he doubted that Collins’ inflamatory comments were directed at a specific individual, though she certainly made no effort to clarify her position once the media and police had colluded to deal to their scapegoat.
I think it was the implication of prison rape ("with a cellmate") that was really beyond the pale. That's a long way below the standard of character we should expect in a minister of the Crown.

Turning right out of Gundry is a pretty game maneuver, even in a car – I don’t usually do it, even though it’s an obvious shortcut if you’re coming up Newton to K Rd. It’s got many layers of wrong about it.
Yeah, like I said, I considered trundling along the footpath. But part of me said "hey, it's cyclist day, use the road". And it would've been fine had the car not been travelling so fast.

Exactly. I don't hear anyone moaning about the Northern Busway now...
The classic there is when John Roughan in the Herald condemned the busway on its opening as a "monstrous" folly, then six years later touted its great success as an argument against rail.
Sample:
Auckland is a car city and always will be. Its people much prefer their own cars to any form of public transport and, contrary to the claims of the rail lobby, there is plenty of room for more roading.
In 2001, he also confidently forecast that Aucklanders would “never use” a rehabilitated rail service.
