  • OnPoint: Dear Labour Caucus, in reply to Sofie Bribiesca,

Political Party preference and PAS will guarantee disagreements.

Yup no quarrel with you on that point. But I'm sorry I found the tone in this discussion, especially that directed at Keith, to be unnecessarily unpleasant. PAS discusses vigorously and that is great, it's what we hope for, and for many of us why we are here so much. But within that has been an acceptance of differences of opinion.

I don't know quite why this discussion has felt different to me and it may just be me.

There is probably _other_ people who can remember them, if that helps?

See that's what you have friends for

  • OnPoint: Dear Labour Caucus,

I have to say I find it odd that the leadership of a political party that just lost an election miserably has managed to raise such an unpleasant tone in a PAS thread.

So it was an awful test pitch, if you count lost time for rain less than 4 days play.

Both batting line-ups struggled. Both bowling attacks had periods when they were unplayable.

We didn't really miss Vettori's bowling but his batting might have been nice.

In the end the difference was actually the blackcap batsmen trying their level best to not give away their wickets. And it shocks me to be writing that given how they played at the Gabba. The Aussie batsmen seemed to be playing to prove they should still have a place in their side but the blackcap batsmen seemed to have even more determination than that.

And as a final injustice, Bracewell gets 6 for 40, tears up the Aussies to win the match and a freaking Aussie batsman gets man of the match ... where's the review system for that?

Can we make this thread the cricket one? That wouldn't make me a bad person ... would it?

  • OnPoint: Dear Labour Caucus,

Whoa some harsh criticism of Keith here.

If I read him correctly he is objecting to Labour operating with very much the same patterns of behaviour that left them with an awful election result. To me this is less a criticism of Cunliffe, than a criticism of a grace and favour method of selecting leaders and front bench jobs.

It seems to me that Keith wants Labour to be better than that.

    Haddit, buggered, useless

When I was working in the US I left a note on a broken incubator saying

    "stuffed, don't use"

I got several puzzled enquiries as to why I thought the incubator was full when is was clearly empty.

Apparently Americans don't use the word stuffed to mean broken.

Some great words for Christchurch's word of the year, but so much else happened this year. #eqjp. Arab spring. NoTW imploding and dragging the Murdochs with it. The debt crisis in Europe. It has been a big year.

Chch had a huge impact for us all, but it's part of a whole year for me and I'd love to see a word that captured it all.
