  • Hard News: Judging the judges,

I'd love to see the NBR do a story on judges as they did in about 1994. They anonymously interviewed several experienced lawyers about all 30 or so high court judges and asked their opinions on them.

The lawyers sure didn't hold back. Most judges were criticised, several very, very heavily, with only a few not receiving criticism.

If the NBR can do it once, surely they can do it twice ?

  • Hard News: Party on, dudes,

Well done on 10 years, Russell and the PA team. It's both informative and fun reading and commenting here. Keep up the good work.

  • Hard News: The Big 2012 US Election PAS Thread,

I'm certain I saw someone in the Obama crowd last night wearing a t-shirt saying "99 Problems, but a Mitt ain't one".

The music geeks here will get it...

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Do not disturb,

There's a fantastic photo doing the rounds on Facebook of all five Toy Love members on the red carpet yesterday. They all look in rude good health too, which is pretty good going, given Chris Knox's recentish tribulations in that regard.

  • Hard News: When we had hope and change,

It's incredible looking back that NZ went through five PMs in only three years. Holyoake resigned in early '72 with "Gentleman" Jack Marshall taking over, then Norman Kirk winning the '72 election, with Wallace "Bill" Rowling succeeding him as PM after his deeath in '74, then, of course, Robert David Muldoon trouncing Rowling in '75.

  • Speaker: Music: The Vinyl Frontier,

Not yet, but I'm jamming with a drummer called Tim Player; his main band, Opposite Sex, have been getting rave reviews in Q, Uncut, etc, for their album.

Share the love - besides nothing beats making your own sounds anyway. Given your years of listening to great sounds I'm sure some has rubbed off - any links?

Not yet, but when we've got a full set together and doen a few gigs I expect there'll be a few mixcloud-type things set up.

It fascinates me now to see what old Flying Nun platters are going for at RG. I wonder who’s buying them at $100+?

I can't speak for RG, but for the same items on Trade Me I am reliably informed that a prominent, frequent buyer is a very rich professional in one of the larger North island provincial cities. Being a wealthy professional, the cost is no impediment to his accumulating.

It is crazy that it's came to this. A couple of years ago a singer-guitarist from a significant FN band told me he'd rather people just illegally download his band's EPs, rather than bankrupt themselves by splashing out three-figure sums on Trade Me, etc.

I hope to God that this came out of the 1/3rd of albums you've got on CD as well ... or else you, sir, may be a geek, but you are no music geek.

Rest assured, I do have it on CD, the recentish 2CD version in fact !

Like a lot of you above, I too am amazed at the going rate for some of the early FN stuff. I see all this stuff going for truckloads of dosh that I paid $7 for in 1985 or whenever.

Hey Grant; marathons? Really? I mean, really really?

Yep, marathons. I've done seven since 1998 and several half-marathons as well. My best time is 3hr 8mins, nothing amazing, but certainly respectable.
