Ah, bless. Congratulations again, to a lovely modest man who happens to have written some pretty bloody stonking great songs.

Speaking as a strictly non rugby person, I have to say that I think we are entirely too hard on our international sports people. When the ABs win a match, as they sometimes do, by what I would say was a very good margin, 10 points or so, the rugby analysts start in. Why the need to be so critical, I wonder? Is it all down to small nation insecurity, or something else?

I've always fancied Provence. When I was living in Vevey, by Lac Leman, I was just a stones throw away, and went through it a couple of times, but never never got to stay there. It does appeal! Speaking of winds, don't they have that dastardly Mistral there, or is that in the Dordogne?
Oh Deborah, that is terrible. Those Taranaki roads can be splendidly isolated - but not when there's problems with the car! -
Ah, la vie en rose (ou quelquechose comme ca). It all sounds tres tres bucolic. I'm guessing you've heard of our rather bloody spring equinox weather. Stay where you are until you can, is my advice. Ou si vous voulez dire - restez la, en Provence, parce-que le temps a la Nouvelle Zealande, c'est insupportable. En fait, c'est merde.

Quite a range of opinions on the BDO lineup at The Herald's Your Views. I can't quite understand why some people seem to be so angry
People complaining about lineups like this smack very much of spoiled child syndrome. The biggest get togethers in my "day" were, of course, the Sweetwaters weekends. Wonderful to have seen Taj Mahal, Psychedelic Furs etc and part of the excitement was that, back then, international artists travelled very rarely all the way down here. Are people these days spoiled for choice? It would seem to me that getting to see acts of the calibre of The Clean, and Bjork et al should be enough for people.Every year people whinge about the lineup. They're here, for god's sake, rejoice that you have such a huge choice. Tsk. Young people these days........

Emma, I would most happily happily pay a great deal of money for a lovely person to come and install a freeview box thing, I really would. A home visit, if you will. I just have to convince the male person in my life that it's okay for other people to do these sort of jobs, and it's okay not to be able to do them yourself.

Oh god, it just gets worse. Not only am I the first person in NZ probably to have paid for one of these box things, when we try to install it, it don't work, so we take it back and I am back where I started with crap TV One reception in the bedroom. (Don't be rude). And you lot just bloody plug things in and bang, you're off. (Don't be lewd). And then, to top it all off, I come here after a long afternoon learning about the joys of Comic Life, expecting some humour, some thought provocation, and what do I find? More ubergeeky talk which is way over me poor old head. Bugger me days, but it's hard being a luddite these days. Have any of you thought of hiring yourselves out a la hire-a-hubby?

I love the way that all of The Phoenix Foundations' songs are so different. Very talented chappies, they are.

In 1974, when we lived in Greymouth, there arrived a special surprise in the living room of the family house. It was a colour television -- a 26" Thorn the size of a small chest of drawers -- and it had been purchased so as to capture the glory of the Commonwealth Games.
Same, same, same. Those Thorns were also fabulous for the all night Telethon efforts. Ah, those were the days. Meanwhile, my lovely husband bought me a freeview box for my birthday. What a nice man. Except that he couldn't figure out how to install it - this was 4 months ago, when there really wasn't any technical advice available, and this is a man after all who is a techie person, so I gave up and took the thing back to DSE. Bah humbug.
