  • Hard News: If you can't say something…,

Whenever I see Key, Toy Love's song "Rebel" runs through my mind.

I *love* that song, but I think that the line 'he don't go to films unless he knows they're arty' is... not relevant. Johnny English, remember? :)

  • Field Theory: A vile curse on thee!,

I have probably mentioned this before, but my husband's list of American sporting hatreds is so comprehensive that it might actually be easier to list the teams he *doesn't* hate. In the NBA, he hates the Jazz, the Knicks, the Lakers, the Mavericks, the Spurs (intra-Texan issues are strong with him, and as a Houstonian, he feels he is an underdog); in baseball, he hates the Mets, the Dodgers, the Yankees, the Braves, the Cubs; in football, he hates the Cowboys (no one has ever hated the Dallas Cowboys as much as he does. It's pathological). I'm missing many of them, probably. I can't keep track, and I don't have that lengthy history of failure and bitterness. Heh. (He does like the Sacramento Kings though, Megan!)

I hate *several* past and present members of the Australian cricket team. (And Tyra Banks. But that's a fun kind of hatred.)

  • Up Front: Walking Through the Ruins,

I have an original orangey-yellow 1980s 'Women Can Do Anything' shirt (remember that campaign?). Unfortunately, 'anything' does not appear to include 'fit into this tshirt after you hit 30'. At least, not in my case.

Being namechecked in Emma's blog posts is, like, neato. :)

(I am probably buying yet another pair of shoes in the next few weeks, incidentally. For a wedding.)

    mediocre muffins

Seriously, I must reiterate about the caramel slice. I am really picky about that particular baked good, and they do a very nice one. With a slab of caramel which is actually visible to the naked eye (unlike some other, non-franchised cafes I could mention, who are all coconut base and chocolate icing and the merest sliver of caramel. Bah).

The coffee is not great, though.

There must be some way for me to incorporate this excellent, humourous phrase into my daily life. But how? How??

Hey! No dissing of Barry White just because he was... rather large in his later years. (Solomon Burke can't even perform standing up any more, and he's still a badass.)

And yes, Isaac Hayes was a glorious genius, but Barry also arranged, composed and produced as well as singing, and even if you find the 'sexytimes' lyrics overwrought or silly, the Love Unlimited Orchestra sound as fantastic as any Gamble and Huff-produced Philly Sound things. I am a fan.

    Righto then.

    a 'City Hopper' Daihatsu Sirion

I will say, speaking from experience, that they are surprisingly roomy inside! How many MPs could we fit into one?

However, my brother insists that Obama is as conservative as all hell and there will be little or no change to the US approach to the world. 100% support of Israel in whatever they do, and just a shift of soldiers from Iraq to Afghanistan.

I understand that kind of cynicism, but I have a wee list of happiness:

    - he's removing the global gag rule
    - he's planning on closing Guantanamo and giving everyone there an actual trial
    - he is undoing Bush admin policies on stem cell research and climate change

These are all good things. (Also: trivial, but he talked about a shelter dog. Even *mentioning* a shelter dog is a good thing: more people in the USA might adopt some neglected mutts.)
