Southerly: Tower Insurance Have Some Bad…, in reply to
That would be ruinous.
Yes quite right. An insurance company offering cheaper and cheaper premiums to get more business ... and then ... when an event occurs that all those homeowners paid insurance precisely to cover themselves against, the insurance companies don't want to pay. It is ruinous for them AND IT SHOULD BE!
None of the which should be any problem for the government. If an insurance company goes bankrupt because it managed it's business badly that is capitalism at work. Bad businesses should fail.
But what have National done, they have caved in to pressure from the insurance companies to create a loophole so the insurance companies can avoid their responsibility.
There was no requirement for the government (your representatives) to give the companies (mostly internationally owned) a loophole. But they did. Now start asking why?
This is NOT about the insurance companies using a loophole it is about the National government of New Zealand creating the loophole for them to exploit.

yup. I should say that I'm not seriously suggesting anyone commit arson just pointing out how stupid this policy is on the part of insurance companies.
They continually moan that they have many people committing insurance fraud but they themselves sell deceptive policies to customers with no intent of ever honoring what the customer believes they are paying for.
It is worth noting that these are the kinds of companies that National wants to run our accident compensation scheme in New Zealand.

So if your house in the red zone burned to the ground you'd get full replacement?
Seem's to me fires in earthquake damaged homes would be fairly frequent.

I’ve heard Loyal too, too often
I think there is a maximum number of time you can hear any song. There are songs I loved from my youth that I'm just tired of now. Sadly Loyal was on such high rotation with all media that it's hit that maximum quite quickly.

No Craig. You told Rob to fuck off when he identified Key's comments as ass-holery.
Key's comments had no specific detail, they were not backed up with fact or evidence AND they caused considerable stress to many who heard them.
In short Key was playing to the next news cycle. And in doing so he was doing considerable harm. I can see why you'd be unwilling to try and rebut that.
Yes I know you've been critical of Key in the past but leaping to his defense in this case is wrong. He was not reflecting a deeper understanding of the situation nor demonstrating his wisdom as a leader.
Moreover, telling Rob to "fuck off" as your entry into the conversation is less than helpful in a thread that is meant to be about being less useless than we all currently feel.

but it’s much easier to make good decisions when you have good information from people who are looking a little further (and deeper) than the next news cycle
Instead of leaping to the defense of your glorious leader every time perhaps you'd like to follow your own advice.
Key's comments were pointless AND inflammatory. He should have said no comment at this stage because we don't know enough. He was simply looking to the next news cycle.

Pretty sure the management course has a section on waffling about bad news in incoherent manner so that you can gauge reactions before you actually decide.
So if there is huge fear/panic/outcry about Key suggesting thousands of homes will be abandoned then they won't, but if he gets away with the waffle then they'll go ahead and do it and claim they announced it earlier.
Logic suggests that massive reaction to Key's comments now might be worthwhile.

Am I that predictable?
If you say dependable then it becomes a good thing!

Oh and while there isn't much else I can do at the moment here's something that made me smile and also ask why?
