Until Sky stops filling its shitty sports channels with crap like ESPN (a fatwa on Tommy Smyth wid a why?) and Hip Hop Hold 'em, then I'll be spending my money elsewhere. What a joke.
In an ideal world I'd be happy for proper pay-Per-View - no regular subscription, but $5 - $50 to watch a rugby game, same to watch some footie. I might even be feeling flush enough to watch the Worriors on occasion. I refuse to pay $49.23 for thirty-odd channels of shite.
An e-mailer to radio sport made many of these statements on Saturday only to be told by Willie Lose that he was wrong and Sky offered a great service. Credit to Lose for reading the whole e-mail, but you don't have to wonder who Willie's other employer is.

I don't know which is worse: uncritically regurgitating media releases, or resorting to reporting website puffery.
When I'm not fighting crime by night I'm a mild-mannered researcher during the day. Even I wouldn't be caught cutting and pasting like that. it only takes a second to delete the puffery and make the content look like you've given it some thought.
I mean - "Nestled in the Mangatawhiri Valley"? What's wrong with "situated"?
-
i'll admit to failing to see how that moveable feast of an argument relates back to the issue of the herald not doing its research...
The Herald appear to have been stung by this criticism and have added some research-like components to their story:
Nestled in the Mangatawhiri Valley, the hotel markets itself as a "spa sanctuary", surrounded by "expansive native bush, vines and gardens".
As well as the spa treatment facilities and a "fine dining" restaurant with an award winning selection of wines, it offers clay bird shooting, archery and a range of team-building activities that include paintball, an "Ugly Betty Boot Camp" and a "Final Destination" survivor camp.
Room rates on its website range from $190 to $300 a night depending on date.
The interweb is a marvelous resource if you've got the nous for Google.

The end result is rather like changing the nappy on an eel -- accompanied by the sound-track of a pig being clubbed to death.
My daughter is 14 months and she is still in this mode. She's number three, so we have it down to a one-person job.
Such excellent writing - your descriptions are so poetic and so accurate David. A pleasure to read.

Knowing when your words should be chosen with the greatest of care, or even when silence is the wisest course of all.
Seriously, I really think both of them did choose their words with care, hence my "string the bastards up" comment above.
-
Craig, is everything OK? You seem very angry today, across this and other posts. Anything you need to share with the group?
-
Craig, don't fucking patronise me. Sometimes, conceding a point to you as I did is more trouble than it's worth.
I am seriously not worked up enough about the PM or Key making these comments to get in a fight about it. It's not as if the PM has called for heads to roll or to string the bastard up, which would have been outrageous.
-
Well, Craig, I wasn't expecting such a vociferous response :)
You (and Idiot/Savant) are right of course, but if politicians can't speak as people on occasion (as David suggests), then what can they do? They are members of our community after all.
BTW, did you feel the same sense of outrage when Tony Blair called for the freeing of Deirdre Rashid? -
There's a strong and understandable public urge for resolution in this case, but that doesn't mean the Prime Minister should start directing prosecutions.
I agree wholeheartedly, but can appreciate the PM's need (or perceived need) to vocalise the community's feelings in this matter.
Can anyone say why members of the family have not been prosecuted for perverting the course of justice (or whatever it is called now)? Clearly the family knows whodunnit, but Chris Kahui had the easiest defence imaginable - "It mighta been her" - there's your reasonable doubt without raising a sweat. I wonder if Mr Edgeller has an opinion on the private members bill to limit the right to silence (or is it another case of wanting to be seen to be doing something)?

Some hours later the penny dropped & he destroyed the composure of a room full of grieving adults by asking tentatively "Is mum dead?"
Andrew, you'll have me crying at work.
Having been to all of three funerals in my life. That was hard.
