They said it couldn't happen, Spain would never win because the antipathy between the Catalans and the Madridistas ran too deep. But this team of Barcelona players, captained by a guy who is the heart and soul of Real Madrid has proven all those theories wrong in the last 3 years. Well done Spain, it's a great story, so many of their games have been won so sweetly, so much class right across the park, a really gifted national team. Not too pretty today but a gorgeous goal to settle it.
So hard for the Netherlands, 3rd finals disappointment, they'll be carrying some baggage over this now for sure but they played cynically and too defensively for much of the game.
It may not go down as a classic but positivity won and Iniesta's goal was worthy of a World Cup Final.
Cheers South Africa!

Spain should be 2=0 after 5 minutes of extra time! Fabregas just butchered a golden opportunity.

On a happier note, here's "The Great Drum'n'Bass Swindle" from London Elektricity through our mates at Hype Music. Terribe title, great tune, especially the Logisitics remix.
Life is beautiful...

@ Peter - go on, own up, I bet you've still got Shoot! magazine's (colourful and wonderful) cardboard tabbed League tables from 1985/86 up on your wall.

but what then? no more world cup, I'll eventually even have to take down me wall chart...woe betide.
Man I hate that. There can't be many things in life worse than taking down the wallchart. It always sucks.

I note Klose’s decent form at the WC has now virtually ruled him out of a cosy semi retirement move to West Ham.
Klose's style wouldn't really fit in with the West Ham way.
His 3 goals a season haul is pretty much right on the money though...

The Spanish did an excellent job of neutralising Schweinsteiger (mainly by just not giving him the ball it must be said) and Iniesta's threat tied up Khedira (who had an excellent game on defence today I thought) leaving Ozil on his own up front to make things happen.
An excellent, intelligent display by the Spanish today and they did it pretty much without Torres. Spain, Germany and Netherlands are really packed with class players at the moment. England, Italy, Brazil are all some distance behind.

But they aren't as slow as England
Are you kidding? You could paint a lifesize portrait of Puyol, he's so slow.
Swap Puyol for Upson, Sergio Ramos for Johnson and Busquets for Barry and there's some disturbing similarities. Also throw in an emphasis on pushing forward and you could be looking at Argentina v2. My only hope is that Spain have been looking at Germany's last 2 games and don't fall into the same old trap, easier said than done though.

Trick for Spain is to get a strategy on that whole push everyone up for a goal business cos that's been the undoing of both England and Argentina. They are poison on the counter.
Oh, and start in full throttle, cos thay will...

Spain's defence will be a tougher proposition but I'm not sure it will cope. Amazingly it will be Germany taking the weight of expectstion into the matchrather than the Spanish and I wonder if this will just help Spain a little bit. Germany not having the brilliant young Muller may be a factor as well.
