L before I, but, yegads – do not angry up Brangelina. I’ve seen Salt and am still terrified yet slightly aroused. ( The Tourist we shall not speak of again.)

John Campbell just did a very nice apology for rudeness

The one thing he shouldn't have apologised for. I'd like an apology for that Barnum & Bailey parasite being booked on Campbell Live at all. And did I really hear Cambell extend Ring an invitation for a second round -- can't he sod off and pay for infomercial like everyone else? It's not as if Three doesn't need the money.

    Jackie & Megan:

All of the above and more. But I wouldn't have blamed anyone if they'd just said "flag it, we'll do something later in the year." Instead, Russell and the rest of the crew are being beyond awesome and I get to go along for the ride without having to do any heavy lifting. Yay!

But seriously, Russell is (to use a colloquialism of my misspent yoof) 'fuck'n staunch" and hope I'll never, ever take that for granted.

Can I just say that trying to get a viable budget out of half the original plan -- with a bunch of sunk costs, plus some new ones -- has been hard?

Yes - and may I say the lovely Sonya, who called me this avo to rearrange the flights and accomodation, sounds like she's earned a substantial Christmas bonus in the form of liquor and deep tissue massage? How the hell do you people do it?

or just for giggles they could have interviewed someone like a real geoscientist…

Watching the Ring Cult and the rest of the conspiracy-nut pseudo-scientific community at work, would you be surprised if Campbell Live’s producers got told to piss off by every “real” climatologist, seismologist and geoscientist in New Zealand. I don’t know how bad it gets here, but there’s plenty of evidence of sustained harassment, intimidation and character assassination of “warmist” scientists overseas. Looking at the comments on that Edwards post, I sure wouldn't want some of those numpties knowing my name and where I worked.

in part because it’s just so depressing.

Quite - when we're seen people like David and Emma and so many others in the PA whanau who've faced hell with such angelic resolution and heart-breaking humanity watching people who should know better defending a parasite like Ring... No words fit for decent company.

Do not read the comments on Brian’s blog. You will blow the fuck up.

Something there just decided to try a smear-by-false-equivalence. Yeah, my raunchy teasing of Emma around here is exactly like saying anyone who isn't damning John Campbell as the anti-Christ must be a NIWA sock puppet. Grrr... I know it's textbook Derailing for Dummies but, damn.

And may I say, Russell, you've been doing sterling work at staying calm and reasoned in the face of either Olympic-standard obtuseness or downright stupidity.

    “closed-minded”

Ah yes, I'm trying to remember who said there's a difference between being "broad-minded" and nothing ever touching the sides.

back at work but my kids may be still off school at that stage so childcare may be an issue.

Pish-posh. I've been told I can entertain children for hours with a lit cigarette, a bag of jelly beans and the possibility of Los Bros Grimm's Greatest Hits with audience participation. Children are so easy to entertain, demented little Visigoths that they are.
