  • Hard News: The Public Address Word of…,

I have a theory - the best nominations for Word of the Year stand on their own with out needing to be explained.

EQNZ came 9th last year. Oh, those were simpler, more innocent times.

I like 'munted'. Beyond its use by Mayor Bob, it seems that for many people around NZ and indeed the world, 2011 has been a bit munted.

  • Capture: Christchurch: Last One Standing,

Those are some great photos, Adrienne. My favourite - the Sumner Croquet Club. An elegant green rudely covered in giant boulders and rubble, as if it's quietly waiting for someone to come along and tidy things up.

  • Hard News: Most Discursive Website,

Hey, yeah, there are lots of photoblogs – but I’ve never seen one where the audience took up the ability to upload their own images and immediately started having conversations in pictures. It’s really, really remarkable.

Capture has been incredible. I haven't even seen that sort of engagement on the Flickr groups I've been part of over the years. I think it's a combo of camera technology being in the right place, the PA System photo sharing interface, and also the keen-as PA System community.

  • Capture: Colour is the new black, in reply to Ben Gracewood,

A selection of chopsticks in Shibuya Tokyu Hands. Color and Japan.

And some Star Wars thrown in for good measure. It completes the cool dad trilogy.

  • Capture: Colour is the new black,

I'm loving all these colourful photos. It looks like most of New Zealand is enjoying some bright sunny weather today, so I encourage y'all to get out and take some photos.

Kia ora Robyn, and might I ply you with a piece of rainbow cake.

OMG! A single rainbow cake is better than a double rainbow. All the way, across my mouth.

My mother knits children’s toys in bright wools and acrylics. This is the palette of her world. Thank you!

That's a great world to live in!

Fill me up with all your delicious colour.

I will do that, Morgan. I figured something big and colour and digital was the way to go for my first post. Good for what ails you.

  • Up Front: What if We Held an Election…,

Devise several frighteningly feasible ways to carry out small-scale voter fraud.

I worked on a couple of elections in the '90s and this was also something I did when there were quiet moments. Easiest way: if you knew for sure that someone wasn't going to vote, you could basically just rock up to a polling booth and vote in their name.

Favourite moment from my polling booth days: an old lady who showed up at 7am to vote and was very cross when told the booth didn't open until 9am. It had, she insisted, always been open at 7 in previous years.
