  • Hard News: The best kind of villain…,

So, another little piece of me dies today then...

Thinking about this earlier: I wonder if we should see the Duck Rock phase as at least as influential as the Pistols.

Yeh, and even later bits such as Waltz Darling added ambience and operatic orchestralism to pop sounds which certainly influenced post-house electronica in the 90s & 00s. The guy wasn't afraid to muck about and maybe the biggest compliment to him was that his albums were never as interesting as the path they opened up for other experimenters.

  • Hard News: A revolting piece of shit,

Thought that Dirty Sesh story on the news the other night was going to be another rap music beat up but the bits of the video that they showed were enough to say to me that it was simply just wretched. Eminem he ain't...

  • Hard News: Sweet Rocksteady,

Never, ever. My heart swelled the other day when I asked my 4 year old in the car what he wanted, tentatively suggesting "The wheels on the bus". The answer, firmly, was "NO. Bob Marley's Buffalo Soldier".

Nice. My kids, now teenagers are fond of comments like "This is another song about smoking drugs eh dad!"

    Ahem.

On a different note. My entry for the big dumb dance tune of the week has to be Nero's remix of Holiday by Dizzee Rascal. Make your weekend a better place here:

  • Hard News: That Summer!,

Are there good biking day-trips at particular points? I can see that being a good solution to varying expectations of challenge on the trail.

Pretty sure there are. Tama Easton from work here who's a bit of a bike fiend elected to do the driving when his whanau did it. Mainly so he could rip off to a couple of good downhill hellbenders that he knew about near by.

What's this about having to book a year ahead for the Otago rail trail? In my experience, you just DO it, and there should be a bit more accommodation available than 4 years ago, which was our last effort.

Sorry yeh, there's no booking for the trail itself. It's for the accommodation in peak season (Feb-April), we've been advised to book a long way ahead if we're going at that time.

I've had a couple of mates who've just ripped through in less than a day. Solves the accommodation problem but kind of defeats the point :)

I've been discussing cycling with her, actually. Returning to the tennis court after this particular ordeal seems a stretch.

We'd be doing the comfy version of the Trail, 'natch. Not too many K's per day, a proper bed at night and a decent amount of the local produce and beverages every evening.
