And Americans are electing the commander in chief of the largest army in the world, let's not forget that.
Err, no, you have to be a member of the Chinese Communist Party to have any say in who the commander in chief of the world's largest army is.
The Americans place second, and the North Koreans fifth, on this list of dubious honour.

I think it was Henry Tudor who bleated. Richard III was already dead by that point (although re-appearing as a ghost).
-
I also think that Obama has made a huge mistake in selecting Joe Biden as running mate.
Just saw him in the crowd at the convention. With his unnaturally carrot-toned tan, and radioactively glowing teeth, he looks like a cross between a sleazy used car salesman, and something out of Miami Vice.
And yet he's still less creepy than Romney.

Re: US-FTA.
Quite a few years back I read something on-line (in the Guardian if memory serves) about how Britain deludes itself by thinking it has a "special relationship" with the US. The US acts only out of what its perceived self-interest. Any agreement will benefit the US first and foremost.
The article (which I've never been able to re-locate) concluded with the very sage warning: "The only special relationship the United States has is with itself."

It's the moralistic overtones about morning people being more virtuous that piss me off.
Oh how I hate those sanctimonious bastards. I distinctly recall one workplace where I would get in at some respectably early hour (say 8.30), and some complete fuckwit who had got there 20 minutes earlier would give me the whole routine. Every fucking morning.
Yeah, that never grew tired.
I can do early mornings if I have to (did a year of 7.45am starts a while back), but left to my own devices it's dinner at 10pm, bed at 2am, and arise at 10am. My most productive time tends to be late afternoon.

How much can we seriously read into what happened in 2004?
At that time, (enough of) the US seriously believed they had just defeated Al Qaida by invading Iraq. But how many still do (or believe something equally preposterous)?
And don’t forget that Kerry was stunningly uninspiring.
Err, look who he was up against! ;-)

most polls are unable to account for documented the surge in voter registration among democrats, or the likely surge among young people and minorities
Didn't we hear this last time with Kerry? And wasn't there in fact at least a modest surge in voter registration and turnout in 04?
Net result: 4 more years.

Yeah dont fuck up. Vote for the candidate with integrity and a long history of non partisan legislation rather than the charismatic preacher.
Alternatively, don't vote for the one who is certifiably mad as a meat-axe.
Oh darn, I'm starting to care again ... thanks RB!!

Because I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking: America, please don't fuck this up.
That's what I thought and earnestly hoped for last time, yet the fuck-up was returned to Office, legitimately or otherwise.
The last two elections have made me extremely cynical, to the point that I'm now rather torn between the "please don't fuck this up (again)" camp, and the "I don't give a fuck" camp.
I think I've just resolved my position in favour of the latter, for what it's worth. ... Not much. ;-)

__Judith Collins .. had no proof, just that scowl she always seems to have on her holier than thou face.__
It takes a lot of concentration, channelling Ruth Richardson.
And I always thought it was Jenny Shipley she was channelling. Especially the "Code of Social Responsibility"Jenny Shipley.
Did anyone else think when National released its delightful policy yesterday: "Nine years in Opposition, and that's the best you can do?"
