  • Hard News: The Hager saga continues, in reply to Paul Campbell,

In Chrome if I click on the redacted email address it pops up a response email window addressed to the correct person (spit)

(kind of a textbook example of what happens when you hide the data but keep the metadata around)

Sigh … He actually sent it in the clear – it was me trying to be nice who obscured it, and this made sure that was the main topic of conversation :-)

Must save the next one as a jpeg.

  • Legal Beagle: Terrorism is already illegal, in reply to simon g,

Thanks for the post, Graeme. Very informative. Shame the comments thread is a bit … strange.

Hmmm, yes. I won't delete anything, but I would encourage everyone to try and keep their commentary relevant to Graeme's original post.

  • Hard News: The Hager saga continues,

Cameron Slater has sent me a copy of his letter from the IPCA. It does make me feel sorry for the police.

  • Hard News: The Hager saga continues, in reply to Jack Harrison,

I can remember reading things about Charlotte Dawson in the press that made me ashamed to be a New Zealander. She was hounded out.

And chief among the hounders was Judith Collins' bestie, Rachel Glucina.

Also where is Hides contempt for the men who wanted to ruin his marriage . I would be furious about that, anyone would be.

That is quite odd, isn't it? Surely the natural response would be to be angry at the people talking about blackmailing you and wrecking your marriage.

  • Hard News: Doing over the witness, in reply to Grant McDougall,

Agreed. But while Slater is odious, Hell Pizza aren’t exactly, er, saints, either. A couple of years’ ago on Campbell Live (iirc) there was a story on a couple that’d bought into the franchise and somehow ended up in dispute with it.

The franchise responded with some pretty heavy legal threats, etc. It was real “using a sledge-hammer to kill an ant” stuff. Hell Pizza came across as rude, inconsiderate bullies. The couple were very, very pressured and stressed to a completely unnecessary extent.

Bear in mind that Slater’s vendetta on Blomfield was apparently at the behest of Blomfield’s former Hell Pizza partners, who were still running the business. It’s a very tainted brand, in my opinion. But taking it out on the poor bloody local franchise-holder seems harsh too. I just don’t like the product.

nah man…I hadn’t seen that list. but there is a Cilla canon swapped among certain types.

Okay, so it turns out there's quite a bit of Cilla, although much of it fits more comfortably under "novelty".

I'd been thinking "if only she'd worked with Scott Walker" -- and she did! Kinda. This muffled recording of a duet is all that remains of Walker's appearance on one of her Christmas specials.

It's from a Guardian roundup of unusual Cilla moments, which crosses over notably with Alan's :-)

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Cilla!, in reply to Ken Double,

Bless. I remember her Blind Date period well. She was a bit (a lot) of a Thatcherite was our Cilla.

You see, if she'd just kept hanging out with the Beatles and done loads of acid with them, this would never have happened.
