Maybe it is a result of their name being given to a beer - I think it was a Hallertau brew - and it was nice beer, too.

Craig, you beat me to it on the "where are the parents" angle.

If parents were able/enlightened enough to discuss age-appropriate(?) sexual matters with their progeny from the get-go I think the children will be in a much better state to weather the 'sexualisation storm'.

  • Hard News: Thatcher, in reply to Lilith __,

Thanks Lilith. I kinda see what he's on about now, but does he really believe that? It just seems that he has a completely strange idea of what the population thinks they pay tax for.
It never occurred to me that my tax was anything other than a means for the government to provide the necessary education, health & social welfare provisions of the population for whom it works. With a little to subsidise Bellamys, pay for a toy army, etc.

  • Hard News: Thatcher,

I lived through most of the Thatcher years in the UK and can't think of anything nice to say about her. A nasty selfish idealogue who fostered division and drove a wedge between people, fractured British society in ways that left scars that still haven't healed.
She & her policies were responsible for hastening the widening of the gap between rich & poor, have and have-not.

My 1st thought on hearing of her death was Hoo-fucking-rah.

  • Hard News: Key Questions,

Sorry, I didn't mean to give the impression that I thought that war with/against N Korea was at all likely (I don't). Just metaphorically shaking my head at (sarcasm alert) Our Glorious Leader and his willingness to go to war.

  • Hard News: Key Questions,

He is a smarmy little weasel with as much moral conscience as that implies.
He is a disgrace to the country and makes me slightly ashamed to be a NZer whenever I see him dissembling/lying and making his little stomach-churning smirk.

Sorry - needed to get that off my chest. He is a source of great derision in our household, but it goes deeper and less pleasant than just that.
But he will lead us into war against N Korea? FFS!

  • Hard News: Done like a dinner,

I see this morning there are headlines about potential electricity price rises...

Electricity prices will have to rise if the sector wants to attract further capital, Contact Energy CEO says.

I'm feeling bemused - they want to charge us schmucks more money so they can attract more money via investment? Is that a legally viable reason for further screwing the captive audience?
Can someone explain (gently) the ethics behind this?
