So many lovely, lovely things! Thank you everyone. I’m not very good with poetry – didn’t recognise the reference in the title of the post and had to google it.
A couple of comments triggered by earlier posts…
I love the flowers on japonica. Joe Wylie mentioned his "mum’s generation used the “apples” from the bushes as a source of pectin" – there are still a few people around who make japonica jelly, one of my favourite things for toast. It’s similar to quince or crabapple jelly but has a unique tang. I get mine from Michael’s Kitchen at the Hill Street Farmers’ Market (Wellington).
Looking at the foliage on Jackie’s mystery pohutukawa-like flower from the zoo, I wondered if it might be a relative of the albizia that Sofie posted on page 3?
Lilith & Nora – I’ve been admiring oxalis flowers since I was small, I used to pick them out of lawns when out walking. It’s a weed, so I was allowed! Here’s some that were on display at Wellington’s Botanic Gardens at the end of summer last year. Not spring I know, but they were growing in the rockeries that are used for lots of colourful spring flowers :)

Re "Lionel" (John Leigh)...
And spurned, he had to go and be in a movie with Vin Diesel.
Actually, it was "Leonard" (Marton Csokas) who was in xXx.
(I used to watch Shortland St back in the day, haven't done for years.)
