  • Hard News: Another entry in the Public…,

So, if we're all figments of your imagination, who are this 'audience' you speak of? Just yourself, too?

  • Hard News: Footnotes,

No walk, no airplane parts. It's not going to happen.

There's just one small flaw in that statement... It just DID happen.

    Somebody DID win +$36,000,000.00

It DID happen, it DOES happen, somebody does win.

Every single person that ever won had a ticket. Every single person that didnt have a ticket, never won.

  • Hard News: Footnotes,

    I'm with Danielle...I maybe buy a ticket 2 or 3 times a year...

The chance of winning is very small, but not quite as small as if I dont buy one.

1 out of a squillion chance is still INFINITELY bigger than zero. :)
Tell me that is statistically wrong?

Now, getting more tickets.... THAT I dont get..... because 2 (or 3 or 5) out of a squllion is not that big a change in the odds...

  • Up Front: A Kink in the Pants,

t I have some very broad issues with how sexuality is used in the legal system. The homosexual panic defence law suggests one way of getting lawyers out of that bind, by simply saying 'you cannot argue this'.

I understand and share you concerns with how sexuality (real or suggested) is used like this, but there is a fundamental difference between the "gay panic" defence and other forms of trampling on the victim....

The Gay panic defence is an "I did it, but I'm not guilty of murder" defence. Like insanity or self defence... you are not denying it was your own actions that lead to death, you are denying that it is murder. It's the "not murder because the victim was gay" that makes this so completely repugnant.

Removing the ability to claim its not murder because XYZ is way different and far less wide-ranging than saying you are not allowed to suggest particular alternatives to you being the perpetrator.

  • Hard News: Ups and Downs,

As the campaign started... National might have made a close race of it...

Lee obviously made more than one or two fluffs on the hustings.... but did that kill her? We'll never know. It became un-winnable for National as soon as the Motorway extension plans were changed.

  • Hard News: Chaos in Kingsland,

Which seems a little like tampering with evidence to me ...

Yes it does, but it's "court approved" tampering...

  • Hard News: Chaos in Kingsland,

Any truth to the rumour (reported on TV1 Breakfast) that the sign-written vote-for me car of the "not a bitch from hell" was in a handi-capped parking spot outside the tavern...

Is that a sad reflection of entitlement or a nasty smear from opponents? I guess we should we assume "pictures or it didnt happen"?

The Rambo 1 (or 'First Blood' for the pub quiz pedants out there)

Most F*&ed up "sequence" of titles ever.

    1) First Blood
    2) Rambo: First Blood Part II
    3) Rambo 3

What happened to Rambo 2 ?

Emma, as far as I can tell, injuring yourself in such a spectacularly stupid manner as your bloke did, is very manly indeed. (at least in Tim Allen's tool-time version of manliness).
