This one takes the cake WRT the GM-Rush Limbaugh article (my emphasis), and it sounds a bit like Rodder's attitude to local government:
If it wasn't already crystal clear to everyone, Rush Limbaugh is the absolute nadir of ends-justify-the-means thinking, if it can be called thinking.
Nothing is too extreme for him to advocate or encourage in pursuit of those ends. And what ends does he pursue? Conservative defeating liberal. It's a football game to him and his team must win at any cost. He'd rather blow up the stadium than see the other team win. He doesn't give a rat's ass what happens to the fans in the stands. If they've got to be collateral damage, so be it.

I think the most appropriate term would be "plutoligarchy", but it's no bumper sticker slogan.

Craig: you know that isn't true, that would be big government, it's ACT policy that all that stuff will be outsourced to the private sector -
It's not without precedent. The Pinkerton Agency immediately comes to mind.

Whereas this is the best piece of news I received in months.

What am I supposed to do with Friday nights now that NZ's Next Top Model is over?

Didn't Doug Myers accost Bill Ralston and demand to know why he had called him an arsehole on the radio? He had gotten Mr Brown and Mr Ralstons throaty tones mixed up. Although what Doug Myers was doing listening to BFM is anyones guess.

Are we to add nothing to this? is our vision so stunted that we cannot provide facilities appropriate to the times to the benefit of the city ? When I come back I will gladly help you pay for it. Stop thinking of yourself and think about wider and longer things for a change.
I suspect Think Big, and the subsequent Parliamentary Acts to prevent another one happening again, had a big part to play in that stunting of vision - especially state-led investment. Similar attitudes to private investment came about after abusive monopolies like Rod Deane's Telecom took control of newly-privatised SOE's. There must be a way to break the deadlock.

Apparently John Key thinks a mandate is Rodney Hide having coffee with John Banks.
Starbucks, Gloria Jean's, or Instant?

Reminds me of Lindsay Perigo's take on the Battle of Seattle (nearly 10 years ago now!)

APN's publications don't even need the corrupting influence of Murdoch to have gone downmarket, that's how far they've nuked the fridge. Chapter 7's too good for them.
