Handy list of the ways the Nats will try to spin their way out of trouble:

I despair of my friends who don't vote because this party or that candidate is not quite up to scratch on this policy or that aspirational value. Its a cop out, clever, safe, impressive even, but really ineffective.
The politicians are all imperfect, just like us, but how can we alter the overall composition of parliament so the policies and decisions are at least worked through a real process of debate, discussion and dialogue. Even if that dialogue becomes stalled. I would just love a Parliament that occasional said "look we can't all agree so we are not going to do that thing, maybe later".
We really do need the right of proxy votes on behalf of the non voters. -
Pity we can't have all those unused votes traded on Trademe.

Beautifully observed Lucy . The syntax rules for chants is important. You'd think it smart for an unloved politician to change their name to something long and unchantable.

Russell that "original notice for the meeting" has been pulled from the Community Waitakere site buts its still on the Bapist Church's site

Helensville has become my electorate , ironically we got moved from David Cunliffe's New Lynn to John Key's Helensville. Its a dilemma cause I never vote National , neither have I had a bikini wax , thanks David for making that rather bizarre but compelling link.
I am looking forward to the meeting on Mon , with it all taped down so tight something just has leak out. If not I will be watching the body language carefully ( I have had training!) and will report back in full .

The sound mixer should’ve wound down his microphone.
I do wish directors would do this.
+1
I wish us viewers had that power . -
Will the people of Epsom suck it up and vote for him, regardless?

He's playing the same race card that Don Brash played and he is playing it to the same audience, that percentage of New Zealanders who still think Maori are skiving con artists ripping off Pakeha. Packaged up with that "we are all one people" nativity.
To call it a civilized discussion is bollocks.
The tragedy is Jamie Whyte will still have his supporters and they will vote for ACT.
I think the current , hostile, response is about right and deserved.
