All I can say then is - letting the information out into the public arena does not seem to be totally motivated by a concern for Mr Veitch's mental health...he is part of the media, a public animal, and the media notoriously feeds on its own-

Several family & friends are currently on medication for severe clinical depression (lifelong for 2.)
While attempted suicide has been a factor for 3 - and I would never belittle the severe pain of deep depression so that must always be an option- the last thing any of them would've wanted is *any* kind of publicity.I truly cannot understand - except as an assinine attempt to garner public sympathy - why any Veitch family member - or other associated person - would let this material out into the public arena.

Kia ora ano Mrs Skin- roughly between 1760s and 1830s for the fighting bits (hey! we nearly got Rauparaha!) and we were fighting Rakitane, Tumaatakokiri, and the later upstarts Kati Toa & Kati Tama-
the place (Nelson et al) is *totally* undersettled by Polynesians (archaeological dates going back to the 13th century) and I'm very sure, if you want, reading the Mitchell's 2 vol. history will give you another perspective...I offer the Mitchell's books because they aint Kai Tahu-
dunno when you were growing up, but when I was picking tobacco in Motueka & Upper Moutere, and raspberries in Nelson in the late 1960s ,there was surely a very large Maori/Polynesian population around-

Kia ora Mrs Skin - I know Oamaru *very* well - and some of the McGillycuddy party founders - but I'm the other side of the hill...
Nelson/Marlborough is an interesting area, tribally speaking: my tribe passed through there, went back & fought there, but only claimed manawhenua further south.
But artistically speaking, foodie & winebibery speaking - it's pretty central/essential eh!

Free-lance (one word) work is generally paid (in NZ) at between 20c & 50c a word...
any other freelancer (still one word) noticed payment-delay creep?
I'm seeing it here, and overseas.
Time to agitate for payment UPON RECEPTION & AGREEMENT TO
PUBLISH I think...and yes, the screaming is deliberate: most author royalities are paid to the author 9 MONTHS after the publisher has received the monies for copies sold...Not quite the same situation as detailed, but-

None of the foregoing makes any kind of commercial sense to an already established writer. Which probablly means nothing much to any other artist of any kind- EXCEPT
how do you make sure of your revenue streams?
There's going to be control/lers taking way bigger bites than yer average agent et al-
