  • Hard News: Reasons to be cheerful,

And, speculating wildly in advance of the facts, but since when has purse-snatching been a capital crime in NZ?

Still in advance of proven facts, but....

According to stuff or NZ herald, (sorry, I forget) the armed offenders squad was involved as early as New Lynn / Titirangi where it started.... so presumably the bag snatchee or witnesses saw a gun and called it in?

purse snatching is not a capital crime, but waving a gun at armed police is not advised....

I wonder what all the crazies are going to do with themselves now that chimpybushhitler is gone?

But my word-in-your-ear voice obviously had something

<Ralston mode> It had the required smugness that was missing from the earlier versions of the Kirwan ads</Ralston mode>

  • Hard News: It's not OK to just make…,

When I was a young single man, my married boss explained how women use this special mind-fu to trick men into thinking they (the men) want babies...

  • Current Status: Holidays,

From my "Aucklander for the last 30 years, but actually Australian" perspective....

Sally Lunn is unheard of in Melbourne and possibly all Australia? They are called Boston Buns, and only come in white, never pink.

On arriving in NZ.... Boston Bun was unheard of, and Sally Lunn was the appropriate name to use for a pink or a white one.... "pink bun" was also used (for pink ones, duh), but there was no equivalent "white bun" descriptor in use..

I may be mistaken, but in my expeience, "Boston bun" has only come into NZ usage through the Australian franchise "Baker's Delight" not changing the name to suit the local market. (ie. unheard of until the last decade or so)?

  • Southerly: England's Pleasant Pastures Seen,

Thankyou for describing "the height of the sky". Not only, as Russell says, is it a lovely characterization of the feeling of the weather or place.... it also disabused me of a notion I was under...

You see, in that recent tourism video from our great leader... while many people were getting upset about his pronunciation of mawree kulcha or some-such.... I was under the impression that he was stupid to suggest that our blue skies might be larger than other places... (and thus it was worth visiting to see them).

I was under the impression that every place on earth had much the same amount of sky over it (whether visible or not).

Clearly it was me who was wrong. It is such a relief to know my leader wasnt saying something else stupid.
