Pete's something of a perennial candidate here in Dunedin, seems to run for just about anything and with anyone who will have him, but never gets elected - remember when started his own party and was searching for candidates on TradeMe?

Pete - your link points to a Greens sign placed near a defaced National sign - many communities, like Dunedin, limit billboards to certain spots, having a Greens billboard near a National one is probably not uncommon all around. I think the Greens I know are probably too intelligent to draw a dick on Key's face - I suspect this is more a rejection of National by the hoon vote
I saw defaced Labour billboards around Dunedin on Saturday - do you think it was National or Act? some of their signs were nearby
I think this guilt by association you are trying to tar the Greens with says more about your personal politics than any reality

I think his banking background is fair game, so is his working in the US in the Wall Street world and that whole mindset - the Jewish thing not so much, but it shouldn't be a secret, we should celebrate that we don't care that he's Jewish and that anyone can aspire to be PM

As someone with a Jewish wife and kids I occasionally point out that he's Jewish, mostly because to me it's a point of pride that NZ will elect a Jewish PM without it being an issue, much less a 3rd PM ... elsewhere it might be an issue, but not a bid deal here ....might be time for a Maori PM though ....
Mind you we do have a minority to whom having a Jewish PM probably is an issue, ironically those people are likely to be on the right, supporters of National or their support parties .....

does no one remember the days when an election meant a barnstorming nationwide tour of town halls by party leaders? - once every 3 years you got to heckle the guy you didn't like.
The election immediately after the '81 tour was, I guess, it's downfall, National knew they weren't very popular and an awful lot of people needed to vent at Muldoon ..... so they handed out tickets to the faithful - it was a meeting open to all .... if you had a ticket.
In those pre-desktop publishing days the tickets were a piece of canary yellow light card stick with a unique number on it .... an enterprising individual realised that they were ... a piece of yellow card with a number on it, no one was going to check them off at a door, they loaded up a xerox machine with genuine tickets and started feeding canary yellow card stock into it .... I remember someone in the front bar at the Cook the night before the meeting had a pile a foot thick .... the meeting was packed .... the SIS guy sitting next to me with the bomber command mustache trying to fit in .... didn't
