I was passing through Auckland, it was the day before I left on my OE when Marylin Waring crossed the floor, sometime as I was traveling through the Pacific Muldoon called the election and by the time I reached LA there was an election on - I went out of my way to arrange a vote in the soon to be closed SF consulate , it was my last vote for 20 years, and completely useless (a Labour vote in Otago, then the most right wing electorate in the country, meant nothing in an FPP world).
After years of marching in the streets , (and on the harbours) , against Muldoon and his cronies, and in particular after the Tour, it was disappointing not to see Muldoon get his comeuppance.
I missed out on the following decade or so of turmoil, the NZ I returned to 20 years later was a very different place.

I guess I'm confused reading section 71 quoted above, all those ands would imply to me that you can publish what you like AFTER the first (or only) inquiry has completed - can you explain how one (as a naive non-lawyer) should read that
After a coroner’s finding (if any) has been released, only the name, address and occupation of the person concerned and the fact that the coroner found the death to be a suicide can be made public without a coroner’s permission.

forcing a cash strapped ACT to contest both a by-election and the general election in close succession might be a very smart move, especially if the punt on the by election - they might end up ceding Epsom to the Nats (where it might stick in the following election), or even split the vote between ACT and the Nats and actually win it (where it probably wouldn't stick)

I agree - but I think that in their minds they've moved on (Why can't everybody else! don't they understand!) - I do kind of get the impression it's become amateur hour over at ACT

Remember that ACT was taken over by the Nats for the last election, after failing to mop up a perceived missing right wing vote they're not really interested any more so I think the old ACT have taken their party back, they're probably not very interested in the usurpers in parliament still using their name

I think the way to look at ETS is that the neocon-markets-are-always-the-best-way-to-solve-problems solution doesn't seem to be working, too many loopholes (and I guess they are what markets are good at) - maybe it is time for something not quite so soft that puts hard requirements on polluters to clean up after themselves

It dawned on me that Hollywood may have done something inadvertently very stupid, they have essentially goaded a viable pirate party into existence …. from now on any dirty tricks on their part are going to scream “American Political Interference” (which it would be …. cue TV news images of John Minto talking about the Rainbow Warrior and American Nuclear Warships) which would just be playing into the IP’s hands
