As Emma and others have pointed out, you just don't know till you get there, do you? I also think it can change. I used to think I was one of life's copers - crisis mode? I'm your woman. However. Recently, we had a bit of an accident in our house, followed some months later by a health scare. At neither of those times was I of any use whatsoever (flapping of hands may have occurred once) and yet, 16 years ago, when faced with a potential terminal illness and it's treatments and repercussions over a period of about a year, I was steely, determined, and very clearminded.

I find it hard to put into words how I feel about today, because, I guess, it's not my pain. It's not my experience. And, as you have said, Emma, it's not like that moment when your world stops spinning, but everyone's going on about their business, because those moments keep happening. Every day, in different ways, for the people who call Christchurch home, in whatever way that may be. All I can do, all of of us can do, is make sure that you know our love is with you. Our best wishes. That we are all, at base, part of a community that will look after each other when needed. I'm not big on gravestones, or days of commemoration, or any of that. What I'm big on is hugs. So take it as read, that I'm sending some super duper ones.

Stark. So stark. And powerful.

All anyone can do, in the end, is focus on looking after their family, and themselves, David. It's enough. It's more than enough.

Is that my neighbour's garden, Sof? He's a lovely old fella. I noticed the stall out on Marsden Ave, and wondered what was happening. Now I know - wish I'd gone to see it now. For over 20 yrs, I've been dying for a squizz at his garden. It's open on the first Saturday of every month, so one day I'll walk down there..

Much better, thanks Chris. He had a potassium crash. I spent 3 days listening to a very confused mind trying to convince me it was something else, and if it hadn't been for Sacha and Jackson, amongst others from our PAS family and beyond, I would have tarried longer, and we could have been in real trouble.
