  • Hard News: It's In the Kete!, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

I have a wonderful story about brains, funnily enough. My mother cooked them for us as children, maybe twice. I think I was about 11, and we went on a school trip to the Health Fair at the Auckland Showgrounds. That day, my lunch happened to be brain sandwiches (I don’t know why I had sandwiches, I only like them made fresh, but I digress…..). One of the things we saw, and it’s the only thing I remember about the day, is a film about hydatids. It was pretty gross. For possibly the first time in my life, my appetite deserted me. That brain sandwich went straight in the bin.

I LOVE offal. And I'm very fond of haggis. Rotten corn, not so much.

I loved that programme. And I can honestly say it was one of the big thrills of my life to hear Ella Henry speak about her life at the Late at the Museum panel last year. Absolute joy. I have huge admiration, and love, for her zest for life, and humour.

Hey, Jonathon! Thanks for this. I'm enjoying everyone's night shots a great deal, and I've been practising, but until I get an SLR, I think my photographic version of night time shall remain a bit shit and haphazard. I'll keep trying but.

Oh, I am so going to this one. I love this version of IITB. Pio Tere is a real pro, and I love the audiences. Some wearing pearls, some wearing swandri's.

  • Muse: Freakanomics (TVNZ Edition), in reply to Adrian Wills,

This always amuses me, somewhat. That our television higher-ups think these things will fly, and then, because of the lack of really valuable prize money, or whatever, throw a hissy when they don't. NZ is a very small place and what singer/songwriter of any value whatsoever is ever going to enter one of these popularity contests? Especially when the rewards are incredibly lacklustre? I watch American Idol avidly, because they really do have the most incredible singers on there. I don't always agree with the winners but winning is irrelevant on that particular show. Because talent does out, in the end. Not in NZ, sadly.

The one and only problem I ever have with award ceremonies is that I am very likely, indeed it is certain, not to have seen any of the films. I watch them primarily, okay only, for the acceptance speeches. All of the ones I saw this year were courtesy of youtube - I really liked Meryl Streep's but then I love her to bits and pieces. But otherwise, blah.
