Also this morning, there's this development: protestors gather outside ECan to challenge 'lack of democracy' - with N Canterbury artist/writer Sam Mahon speaking and placing a sculpture,
BTW, city-based ECan candidates Cynthia Roberts, Steve Lowndes and Craig Pauling will be fronting at Garry Moore's Tuesday Club tomorrow (6pm @ Smash Palace, 172 High Street, across from C1).

The Government appointed ’commissioners’ at ECan took a further (almost) $1 million bite out of ECan operational coffers
We can make what the prospective ECan candidates think of this and other aspects of the ECan interregnum at a number of public events including next Tuesday, at Garry Moore's Tuesday Club (which Greg cites in his post). I've been to a few of these TC events, they're very well moderated (plus the beer is good!) with voices from across the political spectrum have been given an airing - or at least been invited to contribute.
There's an impressive looking trio standing under the People's Choice banner. It's noted that the S Canterbury candidate has been elected 'unopposed'. And former Johnnies frontman and punk of old, Rik Tindall, is back for a second crack.
It's not clear who is being lined up as appointees. And who appoints the chairs, the govt or the Councillors/Commissioners? From talking around, it could be 3-4 of them. I guess the govt will see who is elected and choose accordingly. Of the up to six appointees, two will be nominated by Ngāi Tahu.
Also, I'm wondering at first new ECan meeting, will the Commissioners still be referred to as such - or will they all be addressed as Councillors?

Music aside , I think the new Albert Park site will be a treat in its own right. Lots of lovely shady trees, etc. Worth the hike up from the S Island. Oh, and I'd be there to see Fazerdaze!

Christchurch’s Roy Montgomery is back with his first release in a decade – a four-LP box set
Many here and everywhere are anticipating this. I believe there is a fuller Wire interview in the wings. Roy has no plans to tour the release, however, he did do a recent 'gig' at the Darkroom, a show-and-tell session on how he put Headquarters together.

Oooh, this looks good, something for the diaries in October, a string of nine shows by Bill Direen and the (various) Bilders. There are also associated 'BD reads' and 'unplugged' shows.This ain't no ordinary one line-up does all tour - check the extensive personnel list, tailored for each venue. Gosh, we might even see the rarely seen Allen Meek from the early EPs make a re-appearance. Stephen Cogle will join the Chch line-up.

Space Academy is hosting tonight what looks like a German duo, Kraus and Motte. The former has at least included ‘pounding Neanderthal rock’ in his repertoire! I hadn’t heard of him until this week even though he’s been around 10-15 years.
And of course, Motte is aka Anita Clark. She’s performed in recent times with John Chrisstoffels (Dark Matter, Terminals) and Indy,from Doprah. Could be the low-key highlight of the year.

Mark, it's at Unit 9, 48 Lismore St, behind the AMI, as in Jade(d), stadium in Waltham. A suitably industrial space. Not quite visible from the street, go through (normally open) sliding iron gates, then a dog leg to the right. It sometimes doubles as a gallery plus there's Henry's and Henry's (the core of Log Horn Breed) recording studio adjacent. It's all pretty informal and amicable as you might imagine - and BYO booze!

Oh, and punters in the garden city may want to catch Hex Waves and Sere, the latter touring the release of their eponymous LP. Followed later in the evening (or slightly overlapping with) that night - if anyone has the energy :-) - at Log Recordings, Danish industrial noise-ist Puce Mary.
