  • Field Theory: Never alone with Metenolone,

    And now:

Drug Free Sport New Zealand executive director Graeme Steele told APNZ the metenolene steroid, found in Ostapchuk's system, was an old-fashioned doping substance which in comparison to other performance enhancing drugs could easily be detected in testing.

"There is some validity [and] sense in what she is saying," he told APNZ.

  • Field Theory: In closing,

So it seems NBC cut nearly an hour out of the ceremony. Prime doesn't seem so bad now.

But she has been pulling out incredible finishing laps for a while now, which makes it look less like drug cheating.

True, but it depends on how significant the difference is this time. I don't believe she cheated but these days I am never surprised when any athlete is caught.

  • Field Theory: In closing, in reply to Russell Brown,

    The slightly humdrum closing ceremony

See I didn't really mind the closing ceremony (beyond the poor sound). It's meant to be a "just play your hits" kind of event. The idea is it's meant to be a sing-along for the athletes to get out and have fun, rather than the opening which is meant to be symbolic and shit.

For example, Rebecca Adlington said: "Ahhhh can't believe were missing one direction as were not allowed in!!!!!! Grrrr" then "Ahhh love this Muse song!!! Incredible!!! What an amazing closing ceremony/concert!!!!!! Amazing!!" And she was serious.

You could also see it in the American athlete who was singing Wonderwall to the camera, while most of twitter were grumbling about Oasis. Personally I would've liked more Prodigy and less Jessie J but it wasn't for me, it was for all of the athletes standing in the middle (half-cut) and dancing.

  • Field Theory: Time will tell,

I am seriously pissed off at the boxing! The officials (especially the referee) robbed (ROBBED!) the Japanese competitor of a win after his opponent went to the canvas five or six times in exhaustion. The ref needed to give him standing counts or disqualify him for constantly stopping the bout.

    Fucking boxing.

And seriously there is nothing more enjoyable than watching people display genuine talent.

    Yes it is amazing!

  • Field Theory: And they're off!, in reply to Lilith __,

The women are women, not girls.

Hell, some of the women were in their late 20s. Daiane Dos Santos of Brazil is 29!

I was actually choosing sports where the judges have to make a decision about the action. Unlike field events where a foot over the line is easily noticed, a foul call in basketball, a low punch in boxing, a straight arm in weightlifting is a judgement.

Also what you call "beauty" can also be described as accuracy.

I reckon the NZRU needs to seriously investigate an Under 20 style comp like the Toyota Cup in the NRL

Could it just be a larger version of the current club rugby competition? Showcase the guys coming through.

I agree that Auckland seems to have rested on it's laurels with regard to talent development. Gone are the days where they can sit back and just wave money at players from the BOP, Hawkes Bay and the like.

  • Hard News: Drunk Town, in reply to Russell Brown,

Pre-loading seems to be a real problem.

Though hardly a new one either. And Auckland does not have a monopoly on large gatherings of drunk youth. Just ask any of the Wellington readers about how much they enjoy Courtenay Place after midnight on the weekends.

O, to be young and foolish again...
