So are our babies included in the count?
Well, they are eligible to join, so not counting them wouldnt be fair... :)
While only those starting payed employment are joined up automatically... anyone can join, including infants...

one day the people of New Zealand will elect good politicians, and they won't like it.
depends what that means....
elect good people to be our politicians? - what's not to like?
elect people who are especially good at being a politician?- yeah, I see your point.

It appears from the Herald article linked to above... that Mr Plunket's boss doesnt want "his talent" promoting other "stations"...
Now in a commercial TV or radio situation, I'd find that quite an understandable position..... but seeing as they are both state-run enterprises that are not strictly relying on ratings for revenue, that seems a little odd to me.

The worst defender is South Canterbury who won the Shield twice (1950 and 1974) but only defended it once.
Presumably, you mean they only successfully defended it once? because otherwise, they'd still have it.
You are defending it in the next (home?) game after you gain it... So, aftwerwards, win or lose, you did defend it... even if you dont hold it any more.

I think a lot of incumbents of whatever stripe or quality, get in on name recognition alone....

Heres another cycling tip...
If you do have a mountain-bike style bike, but dont use it off road..... replace those knobly tyres with smooth road-treads....
It will reduce your pedaling effort by heaps.... You'll go faster and roll further with less effort.

I'm no financial genius, so please help me out....
Banks "invent" spare money which they loan out to make a profit... but too much sloshing around is inflationary and bad for the economy?
Now, the Banks have got just a bit too creative for their own good.... I can see how the FED bailing out can help prevent the collapse of the entire system....
But if they have to bail too much.... if they have to inject larger and larger sums.... where are these sums coming from? Are they not just going to start printing more themselves to do the bailing out with?
If they keep trying to bail out every failure, arent they just going to perpetuate the problem?

If a guilty person goes free because of this, or an innocent person has their reputation ruined, what sort of penalties do you consider appropriate?
Also, if your reputation IS affected by public release of legally (and properly) suppressed evidence.... do you have a civil case against the party that released it?

if the referendum was decided using FPP by electorates, then MMP won 70/97(?) seats. Pwnd !
I didnt recall that myself.... but it is indeed GOLD. :)

Oh, I'm pretty sure Nov 8th has been the predominant prediction all year....
Obviously, as more and more of the year becomes history, less dates are available.... so there was a broader range of predictions earlier on... it was still the most common.
So, while kudos is due for getting it right..... if bets were being taken it was always the shortest odds, so no more kudos than predicting the favorite will romp home in a race....
