  • Hard News: The McCully Touch,

    The objectionable Objectivists...

I see Peter Cresswell has also got in on the act of trying to rehabilitate Haden's comment.

this is what passes for "Rational passion and passionate reason" or "Say what you mean, and mean what you say" these days?
    and these are intelligent people?

How apt that Cresswell's architecture company is called Organon - the greek word for Tool...

and also illuminating that at the same site
the "who we are" page is under construction
as is the "what you should know about the design process before we start" page...

in his SOLO bio link from his PC blogspot he states:

At an early age he fell in love with the buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright and the writings of Ayn Rand - and he hasn't been the same since. He loves, he says, his 'six R's' - Rodin, Wright, Rand, Reed (Lou), Richard (Wagner), and Robert (Heinlein).

he forgot to credit another R – Wilhelm Reich - his ranch was also called Organon
    - though I find Reich more interesting than Rand that's for sure...

I wonder if he is related to that other noted kiwi libertine and "free thinker" D'Arcy Cresswell ?

  • Random Play: Fiji #3: No truth, only versions,

A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest, as Paul Simon once sang.

true enough, and as Anais Nin said:

  • Hard News: The McCully Touch,

rotten martyrs - let us prey...
Does the Latin quote on the NZ Conservative site Sine Dominico Non Possumus ("We cannot live without this thing of the Lord" - referring to the regular Sunday celebration of the Eucharist)
indicate that these people are allegedly Christians?
God (insert preferred deity here) help us,
The Martyrs of Abitina will be spinning in
    their reliquaries...

what part of the Christian ethic
"Do to others what you would
    have them do to you"

    let's her arrive at:

"When women draw attention to their bodies, they are asking to be defined by their bodies, and at some point, they will find themselves treated as if they were nothing more than a body."

    to paraphrase Lucia Maria:
"When idiots draw attention to their stupidity, they are asking to be defined by their ignorance, and at some point, they will find themselves treated as if they were nothing more than a laughing stock."

  • Speaker: KICK IT! The Faces of the Defeated,

Here's my favourite comic strip, Get Fuzzy, with some suggested improvements to the rules.

    excellent suggestions...
maybe post-match pillory for blind referees...

...and just to weave in another current thread
    relating to Fuzzy's suggestion 4 –

  • Hard News: The McCully Touch,

    a veritable reptile farm... *

Gawd. I was looking at Lucia's NZ Conservative post, and the comment underneath it.

Wow! Scary people! Personally I think that's a strong case for not allowing people to comment anonymously or under pompous pseudonyms...
I would want to know who these people are so I can have no dealings with them in the real world!
At least Haden owned his outbursts...

*actually that might be unfair to reptiles...

  • Hard News: The McCully Touch,

    Jackal and Haden...

I thought he was meant to be a media-savvy talent agent. Apparently not.

I note on Haden's talent agency Sporting Contacts site he says:

"We know this business inside out"
    Andy Haden

he does seem to be turning it inside out for sure...

they seem to have a stable that includes some smart people (and a lot of weather presenters) one would hope would be embarrassed to now be seen in the same company as Haden and his neanderthal outlook...
...it won't happen overnight, but it will happen!
...and pity poor Hayley Westenra now he has pissed all over her pure image by association...
