  • Southerly: Tower Insurance Have Some Bad…,

    From the Letter:

You may also wish to talk with a financial adviser. The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Fund is supporting a project to ensure information and advice is available to help you make your financial decisions. This information will be available in the coming weeks. For more details please visit the www.christchurchappealtrust.org.nz website, and refer to the special section called 'My financial decisions'.

So THATS what I gave to the fund for huh? Hmm......I am having great difficulty figuring out if this is a spend the fund should have the gall to "offer" to pay for, or a cunning govt rort.

"I suppose what I would suggest, if that is enforced, is they build a structure that could take another 13 metres at some later stage when people's mood changes towards the concern around earthquakes."

The prick who said that demonstrates how to pass "Progress and Development 101":

How to get a council to say "GO" to building a suburb on a swamp AND an ex tip.

Time is a wonderful tool for the deft hand of a developer.

Thanks Hilary. I will have to read them now. :-)

However, I think I was pointing out the WHO was at least referencing NZ material. Maybe that might make "powers that be" sit up a wee bit and mayber get round to implementing meaningful and activated guidelines. If the rest of the world pick up on it and action it then NZ - again - dumps it's own world leading ideas. It gets up my goat that others pick up our great ideas and we then dump on the shakers and movers and then totally ignore it. And nail it's death by removing funding.

    Great country. Nice people.

I hate english. Were these guidleines themselves based on "evidence". Whether they are being adopted or followed is another story I would have thought. So maybe my comment should have read:

"Haven't read these so can't comment but certain some of PA will on (how good, correct, right, based on facts - so pick one) are these guidelines???.

Dictionary.com has these as meanings for veracity:

    ve·rac·i·ty   /vəˈræsɪti/ Show Spelled
    [vuh-ras-i-tee] Show IPA

    –noun, plural -ties for 4.
    1. habitual observance of truth in speech or statement; truthfulness: He was not noted for his veracity.
    2. conformity to truth or fact; accuracy: to question the veracity of his account.
    3. correctness or accuracy, as of the senses or of a scientific instrument.

I'll take #3 I think since George's quote mentioned "evidence". Facts if you will.

I'll go with: "habitual observance of truth; truthfulness"

Edit; Giovanni. That is what I hoped.

From George - first poster -

Perhaps not. Let’s frame that as a question: what role should evidence have in policy-making – none, or very little?

Apparently, some. Judging from this mention in the WHO Report on Disabilites recently published and picked up from Grant Jacobs posting on Sciblogs

Go to page 120 of the report. Mention of "Autistic Spectrum Disorder Guidelines".
Haven't read these so can't comment but certain some of PA will on the veracity of these guidleines???.

PS: NZ does get mentioned (quite) a few times.....

His legend states that he was beheaded at Pisa during the reign of Nero, and that his body was placed in a rotten boat with a rooster and a dog. The body landed at the present-day location of the town.

    So.....he was a to martyr.
