  • Hard News: Lucinda Williams made me cry,

A Nickelback performance; an example of public behaviour everyone can reasonably be offended by.

  • Hard News: Lucinda Williams made me cry,

someone dancing in the stand, blocking peoples view, pissing people off, abusing the staff, then drunkenly tripping and going base over apex down two rows of seats...

...is not what Russell was talking about. He's just asking why, at a rock concert in a GA area where you could reasonably expect people to be dancing, is it assumed by you and Mark that if some people sit down, everyone else should feel obliged to sit down? I think that's a kind of selfishness too. It varies from context to context, but unreasonable expectations on other people's behaviour in public situations is also self centered.

But you're okay with expecting others to do your bidding by not objecting to your behaviour? Interesting differentiation.

Not in all cases. I thought Russell's been clear all along as to the type of situation he means. The differentiation he makes - that you don't seem to - is that it is not always the person engaging in a proactive activity (standing up, dancing) who is selfish. As I said, in some cases, complaining about other people's reasonable behaviour is what is selfish.

  • Hard News: Veitch,

Isn't that Contempt of Court, or even Perjury?

    No.

    Graeme,

Are you sure it's not a possible case of contempt, even with the claim that the documents were altered?

The only reason I can think of to alter the letters in the way they allegedly were would be to stop the judge from realising the context in which the letters were written. Assuming they were altered, and it was deliberate, whoever did the alteration is surely guilty of deceiving a judge. No?

  • Legal Beagle: Asserting ancient rights,

Anyone read this: Tizard's response to the delay in implimenting section 92A?

Protests against section 92a that saw some websites temporarily removed and bloggers black out their photos were "childish", she says.

"It is not going to get us any further forward. While I understand the concern of internet users who think that their rights to free music and free films are threatened, the right is not to steal New Zealand music and film makers' work."

Doesn't sound like she listened to the concern's very well.

The right to use the internet is a vital one, but libraries can provide it.

  • Hard News: Get yer avatars out,

My fault, I misread that latter sentence. (In fairness to me, you do sometimes put commas, in odd places.)

Lesson I have learned is 'just 'aim for the bowl, taslov, and avoid any mess''

    PAS has taught you well.

  • Hard News: Get yer avatars out,

    So where you say Simon;

God god, its probably the piece of dirt that's furthest from being a police state on this planet....please...this sort of stuff helps nobody

I'd have to disagree, that this kind of rhetoric, has been invaluable in disarming the passers of this legislation however temporarily.

I think Simon's right. I doubt that the hyperbole you referred to helped the campaign much.
