am in total support of free contraception. I am totally against using solo mothers of a certain age as pawns for dodgy deals that this govt gamble with. It should be free for all, if the funding is supposed to be there.
    Jus’ sayin’

Well, I can think of a few reasons:
    *dog is contained
    i.e absolutely controlled in crowds
    *up off the ground
i.e not getting underfoot, or getting its leash entangled,
*but still able to see & smell surroundings
    *built-in guard for your shopping!
    annnd,
*your cherished pet is on display!

via the conservative Tom Scott. (just posted on kiwiblog)

Tom Scott used to have some really good -and funny!- cartoon ripostes to-the-tory-powers-that-be...now, he has morphed into grumpy-old-white-male-conservatism
and is no longer remotely funny - or pertinent.

  • Capture: Dogs Love Cameras Too, in reply to Jackie Clark,

My late much lamented uncle Bill loved Staffies..brillant people dogs (but death on cats and most other dogs...also, quite happy to take on a young -but impressively much larger - sealion that had decided to claim our kaik' beach as his own territory.)
That same Staffie was the only dog I've ever known to walk through a sea-pool (underwater!) and just walk briskly out the other side...long as Uncle Bill - or family person - was holding the leash, he'd go where-ever we went, ignoring our very much longer legs...

  • Hard News: Free the Street, in reply to Russell Brown,

There was supposed to be an asexual character on SS, according to excited chatter on AVEN...never watched the relevant programmes so I cant comment.

    The Moon is the cauldron
and poets’ brains the fuel- eyes
    are not needed when
    words are the tool-
sing and shriek and sigh and whimper
    groan and howl and whisper
    -know, someone, somewhere, listens
    -to you-

You basically need Sky or Freeview to get anything in this paticular area-

  • Hard News: Free the Street,

Well, I never watched it in the past. And, now without Sky (I dumped them on the weekend, figuring watching only 2 programmes a week (not including Maori tv) for $48.00 a month was a fucking ridiculous waste of $$$) I cant watch this evening's episode-
not that that really bothers me! Enjoy, the rest of youse-

  • Hard News: Where do you get yours? (Food…, in reply to Bart Janssen,

    Great

In Oamaru, we also have "One Smart Takeaway" - while specialising in blue cod & sole and other locally-caught species when available, they also make mean pizzas...we just go for the blue cod & chips . All fish is dipped in their special batter and fried while you wait.
They have already won best South Island takeaway-

  • Capture: Cats Love Cameras, in reply to Steve Barnes,

as the Glutinous hagfish, is one of my favourite fish, they have the wonderful ability to tie themselves in knots.

They do indeed – and they’ll use it to discommode themselves of a hook they may have become engaged with-
incidentally, there were areas known as ‘hospitals’ off the Otago coast, because of hagfish & lamprey attacks. I dont know whether there still there – quite a while since I last fished off that coast (but I look forward to selling this place & retiring over there, and trying again.)
