  • Hard News: Press Play > Budget, in reply to Sofie Bribiesca,

Sadly some seem happy if there is something in it for them. Fairly, some are against and I really hope they succeed.

Tribes arnt democracies. I hate, viscerally hate, some of the decisions my tribe has made. Regrettably, tribal representatives are prechosen & nurtured by an established hierarchy (which is why I ceased voting in tribal elections in the early 2000s.)

The processes *will* sick up all over the establishment with up&coming-at-’em generations – but I’m going to be dead just then

WHICH IS NOT TO SAY &EMPHASIZE the fact that Kai Tahu has done some profoundly good things over the past 14 years – and will do more-

  • Speaker: Damien Hirst: the dollars and sense?, in reply to chris,

We didnt have truly portable cameras (for kids, I mean) but I was truly fascinated
by a bloke at the boulder beach, Moeraki, early 1950s,who v. swiftly drew silhouettes of the
boulders he saw. You looked from sand to boulders to sea- and the sea was coming in-
since then, I've written stuff in sand, built little 'temporary alters/altars for the wind/songs to swing round', made grief fires on the low tidal sand & cried & chanted my grief out - all for the sea to take away, and the sand never to remember-

    Ooo, I like that!

(There is this weird & precious idea that every scrap & scribble of an artist (writer/whatever) is valuable. Aint so. I regularly burn stuff, drawn/written, because it's of no moment to anyone but me - and the moment has gone-

the exception is my diaries: that is because they have a lot of really good recipes in them-)

Um, neither of those services were notified 8>)...but it was a serious gallery, which acknowledged a teaching role...I whipped out my art-Moleskine and made visual notes (I have a weird passion for Raeburn) and nobody blinked or blenched...

  • Capture: Going Walkabout in Sydney, in reply to Lilith __,

One of the considerable pleasures I had on my last trip to Scotland was visiting their National Art Gallery (and the museum, but that's another story.) There were courteous little signs up advising art students & other artists, to not block other artlovers' viewing pleasures - staff would assist with easels if wanted...

Dont hesitate to throw in sand - use the acrylic impasto and there's no need for glue...
