According to the police the monitoring/inquiry, or lack thereof, has been ongoing since 2011. One of the persons of concern is a police officer's son.
So, as a father what did this Police Officer do about his son's behaviour. I am making the assumption the police officer would have known and also that the police would have interviewed the two main protagonists and at least talked to their parents.
To my mind there needs to be an inquiry into the Police response, or lack thereof – The whole thing is extremely wrong.

Same problem different situation - This quote in a Yahoo News Article this morning:
"The biggest problem is that the police don't take action until child victims file reports, but children almost never report these crimes," said head of campaigns Hans Guyt.

The illness in our society where all things fall at the feet of the abused and abuser is protected and enabled is absurd.
It is not up to the victims to prepare the case for the police – the police comment that the victims of pack rape/child rape “did not provide evidence that could be put before a court” is BS.
The police have the power and resources to liase with victims, their families, and others to create the basis to lay charges against these guys. The Police don’t have to wait till this most foul and tragic situation gains a media profile to start doing their job.
If this “situation” had not gained a media profile what were the Police waiting for - a private prosecution?
I hope the abused girls get or are getting support.
John Key, putting on the "feeling prime ministerial costume" for a Monday – really – up yours.

That the Police didn’t seriously consider prosecuting Banks yet a private prosecution produces a case for Banks to answer, which is now picked up by Crown Law, whereas the Police on the other hand hound and get heavy with the journalists and the media with the Tea Pot Tapes Saga speaks volumes about the state of democracy in NZ and the Police being free from key political influence.

I am pretty sure you get it – a person can behave in a stupid way regardless of any other characteristic or attribute they possess – I am pretty sure you understand that as a concept that is without contradiction.
The actions of Brown and Banks do, to me at least, reveal their character – perhaps you are Ok with “it” – but I am not.
-
Too stupid.

I have always maintained that the power of stupidity is the most powerful force in society and that it should not be underestimated.
After some reflection I must correct myself Banks and Brown are equally and triumphantly stupid.
Stupidity is not inherent, for Brown and Banks their stupidity is an active choice, they each chose to act in their own worst interest and to the detriment of those around them and at a no gain themselves and at some considerable loss to themselves. This is basically the third law of stupidity. The behaviours are different but they are stupid
The second law of stupidity is that a person may be stupid independent of any other characteristic or advantage they possess. The stupidity of Banks and Brown reveals their true character.
Generally when people muse about stupidity they consider it one end of scale with intelligence at the other – this confusion is based on the consideration of IQ ratings – which are tests originally designed by the US military to measure mental retardation in recruits.
Intelligence itself is the ability of someone to profit from his or her experience. I wiould say they both lack intelligence.

Ok, I give it to you Brown is more stupid. I do, however, feel KDC was treated pretty terribly and that was stupid. They both have honesty issues the creidt cards and the donations.

Their situations are not comparable.
They are comparably stupid, so there.

Just to put this out there, Dexter, perhaps the staff and parents of Three Kings Primary School were even less keen than the Mayor to have their children turned into set decoration for a lurid press scrum that was obsessed with the Mayor's penis?
A point well - however if Brown isn't going to step aside that sort of hubbub is inevitable - Brown could exercise some sensibility and discretion and for a time be selective with appearances. For Brown for a time everything is going to be problematic and he, and sadly to a degree everyone else involved, has to wear it.
Brown’s whinging about the division between Public and Private life is tiresome – he needs to zip it.
Brown is as credible as Banks - they are both victims of their own stupidity.
