  • Hard News: Auckland's future: Keep calm,…, in reply to Paul Campbell,

usually I try and walk out of customs and hit one

I find it hard to go through customs without doing that, but I manage.
But according to Russell l am a reprobate, along with members of the fashion industry, TVNZ and a couple of radio personalities and Ben Wilson.

I travel a lot and don’t really know if any that are quite so blatant (actually forcing you to walk through the duty free store when you arrive (I often end up at immigration in tears because of all the perfume) it’s one thing to walk down a corridor with shops on either side, quite another to force you into the shop when you’re running for a plane – to me it’s an embarrassing show of greed that makes feel me a bit ashamed every time I arrive back in the country (in tears)

    +2

is that a realistic wish? I’d love for all public good infrastructure to be there, is it?

Not after it has been stolen from us by money grubbing greed heads.

The council has a fair swag invested in about 22% of the airport which already operates (very successfully) as a private company. An option?

It should buy the rest, why visitors to our country have to be fleeced by “entrepreneurs” before they step out into a city without a train from the airport is beyond me. Transport is transport and it should be regarded as a public good along with all other infrastructure, if there is money to be made out of some parts of that then that money should go back to the region, not some scum sucking asshat who already has enough money to buy a farm.

  • Hard News: Dotcom: Further news of the unlikely, in reply to Rich Lock,

I wouldn’t trust him to lie straight in bed.

I think I would still trust him over Key. Key would never side with the "underclass"

  • Hard News: Dotcom: Further news of the unlikely, in reply to Rich Lock,

If he’s so keen to splash his money around, perhaps he could pay some to the out-of-pocket investors in letsbuyit.com

Why? if I were to buy shares in a company called “letsbuyit.com” JUST because some guy said he was going to throw money at it I would consider myself stupid, gullable and greedy and deserve to lose my “Hard Earned Money”.
I just can’t find sympathy for those wanting to make a fast buck, money should be payment for work done and value realised. imho.

  • Hard News: Dotcom: Further news of the unlikely, in reply to Rosemary McDonald,

Who builds the house and digs the garden and and collects the rubbish and tends the livestock and cares for the sick and elderly and disabled?

Who takes the boat out to sea and sets the longline and hauls it in? Cleans the fish?

Who builds and repairs the roads and the power lines, who fixes your car and brings ultrafast broadband to your door?

    etc. etc.

Oh, you mean the underclass, the poor? (less than $150Kpa)

  • Hard News: Dotcom: Further news of the unlikely, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

Can anyone explain the hatred for Dotcom?

He doesn’t take money that seriously. Whether it belongs to the “rights holders” in many cases not actual artists, just middlemen and third party bludgers, sorry, respectable interests in the entertainment industry, or those that made fortunes out of getting the jump on Joe Public over the value of foreign currency from insid…. erm… I can't recall… I reject that comfortably… let the three of us shake on that eh?
As such he is a threat, what if we all stopped believing in the power of the mighty dollar?.

  • Hard News: Going solar?, in reply to Farmer Green,

In the first decades of the third millennium, notions of household self-sufficiency , in anything, seem quaint.

And this entire thread seems almost 90s.
    Less than 20K
    2kw PV panels
    60 amp Mppt controller
    4.5kw Inverter/Charger
    400 Ah Lithium iron phosphate battery stack (600x400x800mm) @ nominal 55 volts (54-58 @ 75-100% charge)
5.2 Kva diesel generator (for long cloudy periods, run for 3-4 hours a day (3 ltrs diesel) )
On demand Gas hot water with solar preheat.

To connect to the grid would have been 40K soo.. no brainer.
