Why not just adequately fund tertiary education (i.e. ensure it is both free and universally available) and then let it sort itself out?

Aren't you a dangerous radical? I agree, but only so long as we introduce at least two more tax brackets for top earners.

Anyway, I look forward to Robertson doing something, as he's identified this as something he claims to care deeply about, but I'm not going to risk anoxia.

I have been a little frustrated with Grant in a couple of discussions on Facebook where he appeared to be supporting my position in spite of the fact that Labour didn't (or more precisely never had when it was in power), but my temptation to challenge him to turn these laudable objectives into policy is tempered a bit by the fact that he's not a one-man party, and I don't expect policy statements to be made public in social media at the time of my choosing. That said, I'm going to want to see him follow up on his good intentions and his saying the right things at some stage.

  • Hard News: About Arie,

I'm very comfortable with people demanding prosecutions and convinctions. Arie's injuries are highly unlikely to have been self inflicted, I think we can all agree on that, and there is his testimony to boot. If the officers who beat him up while he was under their care are not brought charges against, that is a failure of the system, pure and simple. You can accuse us of witch-hunting as much as you want, but the facts on this matter are pretty simple: somebody beat this man up while in custody. They should be afforded due process, but not to get away with it just because.

Given some of the comments in here, you'd think that certain comment-makers had been directly on the receiving end of the flying fists themselves.

Whilst others come across as law and order apologists masquerading as due process concern trolls. I think I know which attitude I prefer.

there's nothing haughty about me letting you know in no uncertain terms that I dislike you labelling me an Aspie

When have I done that, pray?

  • Hard News: About Arie, in reply to chris,

I'm sure you can detect that it may be more respectful to Hans Asperger life's work (over 300 publications on the subject) and Asperger's sufferers to not relegate his name to prefix doom, in the rush to conveniently slap a cutesy label on people. In the same way as we don't refer to Michael J Fox as a Parkie, or an H1N1 sufferer as a porkie.

Once again: it's not up to you. Some people with Asperger's and their loved ones clearly consider it a term of endearment, which is what matters, and I remain convinced that your haughty slapdown was quite out of order.

    Also:

    Gioie

is not even close to being my name or a nickname that you should feel free to use, just FYI.
