A blazing (sorry) column by Rebecca Reider about the NZMA chair's comments on access to medicinal cannabis.
The doctors' body is embarrassing itself at the moment.

You are an undisputed champ on this subject Russell. How to convey such vital detail to potential Referendum voters (i.e. Newstalk ZB listeners) is important.
“Make it Legal” are doing nice work with their multiple meme social media approach.

I puzzle over that all the damn time.

Nice work Russell
Getting across that cannabis has benefits to be exploited and maximised not just harms to be minimised is a struggle.
"Drugs are bad" is a hard meme to counter.

The trouble is that talking about this stuff leads to a lot of inadvertent puns. Agree about the NZMA, just terrible behaviour, but not surprising.

Joe - I saw a (UK) doco a while back that talked about a genetic marker for risk of bipolar disorder triggered by adolescent use of cannabis, and quoted the Dunedin study. Is this still a solid finding? I seem to remember the front-person saying it was about 15% of the population.

Richie Poulton explains it here.

I think psychosis rather than mood disorder, which makes sense in terms of its propensity to cause paranoia.

Russell, is there any way you can block ritawgoodman12 from spamming your site? I first saw the unwanted message just above on Radiation (it's still there).

Apart from shutting down new registrations, no. It's a different one every day.

There have been somewhat mixed results in terms of replication of the COMT gene findings for the linkage to psychotic illness, but this is not surprising given the very low base rate of psychotic illness in the population (very hard to detect even with a sample of 1000).
I've had a student doing a project looking at symptom profiles for regular cannabis users v. non-users. Good news is that while regular users report more symptoms, they are not reporting *different* symptoms to non-users, and the most commonly reported symptoms for both groups are mild in nature.

Approaching this coming election the cannabis topic will be topical on ZB and Magic. ...You need to recruit Kiwis who are using cannabis to effect to call these stations and explain the benefits of cannabis to them and the tribulations of it's illegality ....The listeners need to hear views outside of their bubble ....Calls every day regardless of the topic of the day...You need a recruitment campaign to find willing people to do this .Call out to people on social media sites / related FB groups etc ...give them prep material with more of the data ... A dozen people every week...one caller for each of the various presenters shows from now until the election .

Thank you for outlining what we need Shane.
If I may return the favour, the Twitter link in your profile is broken and if we remove the space it's an account with photos of female bodies. Is that really the image you wanted to project?

Shane Williams, in reply to
Thanks for the heads up Alfie ....How is that possible ?...I've not posted any pictures of women's bodies , never mind any pics of anything ? I barely even tweet...
