  • Hard News: Castoffs of Waiheke,

Bought for comedy reasons but unexpectedly good accompaniment for candlelit bathing, who knew that the late pontiff's rich basso voice praying actually goes very well with beats behind it? and I never would have known that if not for rummaging in the remainders.

Listening to the Holy Father whilst naked? I'm sure there's a special punishment for that ...

  • Hard News: Notes for a Big Day Out,

Well! Took a rather circuitous route home (taxi drivers, I feel, should know how to get to major arterials like Mt Eden Road from Mt Smart. But perhaps that's just me).

Especially seeing as it's just a matter of pointing the car in the right direction and driving ...

I'd like to note several things: oh my god LCD Soundsystem ruled - I could have listened to them for hours and hours, bopping around like an idiot

Didn't they just. That was really, really exciting.

Bjork is a wondrous magical creature - that's seriously the most avant-garde thing anyone's ever likely to see at a stadium show, ever

Yes, even if I did wish she'd played more of a pop show, it was remarkable art.

    Spoon were on the wrong stage; Arcade Fire did their best to battle against bad sound and slight indifference from the crowd (at least where I was standing);

We were up at Lilyworld for the slightly delayed performance by Lady Saw and entourage. I felt like we hadn't really had a hit so far, but she was brilliant, and the atmosphere was happy and relaxed. And anyone who can get the crowd rocking to a song about her own infertility has my respect.

Then Shihad played what I think might have been their best BDO show ever. They were majestic.

I loved how massive Dizzee Rascal was with the punters - I leapt about like a bit of a mad person in the tent when he was on, when I could eventually get in there

It was so hot in there. Dizzee was great but, with no international acts on in the stadium at the time and 27º temperatures outside, the crowd and heat was a show-stopper for me. (We were already in the middle of the tent for the end of Havoc's set and it packed in around us very quickly and heated up alarmingly as Dizzee took the stage.) We went over to Billy Bragg, who was a bit lacking.

also really loved Dr Octagon/Kool Keith, who kicked my day off with a bang; managed to squeeze in Paul Kelly's 'To Her Door', which is one of my fave songs ever, and The Clean's 'Fish' (ditto). So it seems that the Boiler Room was the winner on the day, which hardly ever happens to me.

I was a bit disappointed in Dr Octagon after a fine start when he dropped the Incredible Bongo Band's 'Apache'. And the Clean's organic rock was a perfect follow-up to LCD (in fact, the two aren't entirely dissimilar). Carl Cox was a bit doofy but kind of fun. My crew went home very happy.

  • Hard News: Notes for a Big Day Out,

I'm having clothing issues. Obviously, a frock is out of the question because of all the flashing problems, and I wouldn't wish the sight of me in shorts on anyone, but... to jean or not to jean? Because the jeans are a bit miserable for about three hours from 2-5, but then you're grateful for them in the cooler evening period from 5-11. Ack. Is early misery worth later comfort?

Just popped in to Barkers to get a new pair of cargo shorts. Loadsa pockets, you see.

The mall was full of young punters. And hi to the PA reader I chatted to in the Foodtown queue.

So what happens when it gets to the promised 25 °C?

That's down from last night's forecast of 27º.

I'm expecting jungle weather this evening.

I have to say you hung the equivalent of "Any Christians wanting an argument, I'm right here" on your gate for Slater. OK, he did the same with his cretinous post on Minto, but as with most brawls, who started it gets lost in the question "And why didn't you leave then?".

I know, I know. I just end up feeling ill every time. And the D4J stuff on The Standard is definitely creeping me out.

It's all interfering terribly with my Big Day Out mojo ...

What disturbs me about Mr. Slater's blog posting is that it suggests to me that Minto paid half a million dollars for a rather ordinary green wooden villa with a skylight in the roof. Ouch! That's a reminder why I don't want to live in Auckland.

More than half of all house sales in Auckland last year were for over half a million. Living in a half-mill house here does not make you a tycoon.

And a 634m section is not an "estate" either ...

Wow an apology from Russell, let me frame it....still carrying on with the lie about taking photos of peoples houses. If your defence is "public record" then so is mine. As that is where we got the photo from, the public record.....but hey keep repeating the lie...standard socialist dogma and tactic.

Alright, so you didn't take the photo of the house, merely published it along with a nasty (and illogical) attack on the "scum" occupant.

Again, I invite you to examine your own aggressive and extreme behaviour. Over and out.

And I must say, this all reminds me not to engage with these people at all. The discussion of the topic on another blog has drawn a couple of really disturbing efforts from dad4justice, including his promise to "see and have a talk" with me some day. Not if I see him first ...

Well, well, well Russell and his little band of worshipers have seen fit to defame, slander and lie to fit a story to the facts.

Cameron, I'd respect you more if you didn't roll around playing the victim every time you're called on one of your bizarre outbursts.

    4. Russell is a class A hypocrite, not only does he creepily draw everyones attention to my own address, he then wails because I posted a photo, note a photo, not an address of the house of a public figure.

As I've explained above, my intention wasn't to draw attention to your address and I've removed that from the post(s) in question. My apologies.

Perhaps you could now have a wee think about the vicious invective you packed into your silly post about Minto.

    5. I have never posted a picture of gay porn anywhere, to say so is a lie and defamation. Don't believe me ask James Sleep, if he lies I'll publish his email admitting this to me.

Cameron, I've seen the photo. It was a very, very weird thing to do to a 15 year-old boy, and your continuing duel with him isn't really any better. But I wouldn't expect you to recognise that.
