  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

this makes me think that the word on the street must be highly interesting indeed. no?

What I've been told is certainly interesting. Wouldn't want to repeat it here though.

  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

The weird thing is that many protestors share a similar trait with the corporates/politicians they despise: "I know I'm right and that this is the right course of action to take"

I mentioned the arrogance of some of the more fringe people who've posted on Indymedia and in blog comments this week; I might also have added the word "contemptuous" and "hostile". They actually remind me of religious nutters.

  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

I don't know what happened in Ruatoki, but I have just learned about two aquaintances of mine who had their house raided with dogs and all their computer equipment seized. (Think about that for a moment if you depend on computers for your living or your household management). As far as I can tell they have done nothing worse than be environmentalists with the wrong friends and family.
There had better be something bigger going on here than Tame Iti planning to shoot someone. I was sitting on the fence before, but now I'm getting a strong sense that this is a payback/fishing expedition that doesn't have much to do with "terror" at all.

The more raids, and the wider they cast their net, the higher the police are making the stakes for themselves.

As I've indicated, if they have, for example, documentary evidence of Tame Iti trying to obtain grenade launchers, along with various utterances about using the weapons in a "war", then I think there's every reason to intervene.

But if they're going to seize the computers of people who seem to have no more than a distant association with persons of interest, they'd better have a bloody good reason for doing so.

  • Speaker: Vote Grey Warbler,

__Tui are the gangland thugs of the bird world, and it's ALL their patch, according to them.__

Apparently they will drive off magpies.

My friends live in Melrose, overlooking the zoo, and in recent years, the tuis have come over from the sanctuary and done just that: kicked magpie ass and cleared them out. Definitely an improvement.

Not because of what it tries to do but because it is written so badly that it cannot achieve what it is meant to achieve. For that reason alone it should be rejected.

The notes on the bill say that the "for avoidance of doubt" wording specifically protecting legitimate protest is being removed because it has "caused confusion".

It's hard to see how an explicit clarification causes confusion, and how removing it will make things less confused.

Spelling is a fascist hegemonic construct imposed on the oppressed by bourgeois enablers!

Oh, so that's my fault too, is it?

  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

It's an episode of Lost, scripted by the Govt. (why did the police commissioner have to clear the Warrants with Helen first?)

Because it would be improper to launch an operation of this scale without briefing senior ministers. Because if the police do decide they want to bring charges on the SoTA they will need the permission of of an officer of state: the solicitor general via the attorney general's office. Because threats have been made against the state. And possibly because specific threats have been uttered against a senior politician.

All of which make more sense than the conspiracy theory you're alluding to.

Loving the Mt Bruce birdcall site Graham. I think the kakapo just blew my woofer

It's awesome. It made the windows in my office buzz, and I didn't even have the speakers up loud.

Someone so has to use that on a drum and bass record.

It's here if anyone else wants a buzz.

__I've just posted a story over at Cracker about a guy who got banned from commenting on the Nat's YouTube videos simply because he didn't agree with them.__

OK, should I start counting up the posts on PAS complaining that Kiwiblog is a cesspit of bigoted fucktards and David Farrar doesn't ban people enough?

Read the comments first, Craig. They're entirely unobjectionable. And Damian's right: the person threatening the ban comes across like a power-tripping little snot.

  • PA Radio: Don McGlashan,

Don McGlashan talks about his year of performance, rather than paying the rent, including the Colossus of Roadies stage show, a nearly-completed new album with the Seven Sisters and, of course, getting back together with the Blams.
