  • Hard News: He might be crazy, but he's…,

That said, It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Jordan's a genuine creative genius (which is to say that his mind works on a level different from the rest of us - Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!, indeed), and a great guy, to boot.

I interviewed him years ago at the old Kiwi Tarvern by Auckland uni. As we wrapped up the interview, some of the students there converged to say hello. Jordan welcomed them to the table, asked everyone their name, once, and then proceeded to address all 12-15 of them by name in conversation for the next hour. As someone who perpetually struggles with names and faces, I was amazed.

were there no artists pre-80's deserving of recognition?
(or was this a songwriting accolade?)

Fear not. Johnny Devlin has already been announced as the inductee to be honoured at the New Zealand Music Awards next month.

  • Speaker: Stink,

The silver-grey AB jerseys they will wear against Scotland would seem to be highly collectible ...

  • Island Life: A tale of two Audreys,

Just for Paul, here is the video reel that made Mme. Theuriau world famous on the internet before she was even famous in France.

  • Speaker: Stink,

The somewhat ghastly rugby world cup website has free daily highlights of each game and a subscription service where you can watch every game and all the highlights.

Where did you find the free highlights? I could only see pay-per-view video, Windows and IE only (ie: Windows Media DRM) on 24 hours delay. Full match replays are via Mediazone. It all costs $US49.95 for the tournament, or ppv $3.99 to $9.99 per match.

I've used Mediazone before, in the US, and it was a handy service, but locking up even highlights seems crappy.

The IRB is looking to protect its own revenue by denying everyone else internet video rights so it can try and sell video directly. The fans don't really come into it.

  • Random Play: Whisky, suits, me,

Sorry if this sounds like an ad but I figured given the sponsorship of the rugby threads it would be acceptable. I have no commercial relationships with whisky merchants besides being a customer.

No problem. I only know the BenRiach, but that sounds like a nice tasting.

Couldn't Bret be missing an "n"?

Unlikely. Name me a star of either stage or screen who is called Brent.

  • Hard News: Get a Clue,

Actually, while I think of it, the Herald's recent daft Wikipedia story was not a case of an inexperienced reporter, but the result of an ignorant senior journalist demanding that a a young reporter wrote a story he knew to be silly.

Given that my sources tell me that that journalist responded to my post on the matter by dismissing me as "some nutter" (that's "blutter" to you, big boy) I don't feel any compunction at the use of the word "ignorant" ...

I strongly believe that blogging should be about more than taking umbrage at the "MSM", but really ...

  • Hard News: Get a Clue,

What, you mean the same status as The Herald's elevation of Mike Moore and Jim Anderton trying to beat each other to death with their walking frames to real, live news?

Excellent point, given the not-so-much-a-meal-as-a-seven-course-banquet the Herald made of that ...
