  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

    @ Craig: Really?

Here's the quote you're refering to...

''The messages were sent back and forth and forth between the studio and the unions on Monday night, and it appears a statement was intended for release on Monday (LA time).

It remains unclear why the statement was not released, and at exactly what point it faltered.''

now putting your old journo hat back on, just how far would you be willing to push the accusatory boat out when you're dealing with a rather enormous corporation?
there may be several reasons for the qualifications, but I doubt "because the story is rubbish" is at the top of the heap.

  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

back again Carol - maybe we need our own thread?

I'm not even sure you can go that far...the timeline presented by the union raises a few questions. to what extent was this issue allowed to progress toward relative crisis point by the studio?

their case, it seems to me, is a much easier sell to the public and they have far better resources/ experience to put their case.

but I wouldn't want to take that line of thought much further because it's getting into conspiracyland, and I'd much rather point the finger at hamfistedness.

who knows, both sides could be right on the emails...who's to say the stuff from the union was seen by the right people?

  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

fair enough Carol, but I remain unconvinced that only one side has been dicked with here.

and I'm yet to see a dispute of this magnitude anywhere where one party is driven snow.

  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

really Carol? is that all it will sayl?

if the studio did know the dispute was over yet pretended otherwise while convincing the union that it was acting in good faith, that wouldn't ring any bells for you?

there is an emerging taint of opportunism here - not least from the government - but conclusions can't be made until details such as emails become known.

all the same, I find it hard to believe Kelly would be flatout lying when she knows the studio also has copies of those emails.

  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

I hope Helen Kelly is able to release the email correspondance btwn the union and studio over the ban lifting notification very soon.

    someone is spinning greviously here.

just a small thing, but the Kelly quote I saw refered to a lynch mob mood, not an actual lynch mob.

dunno if amping up such comments is particularly helpful.

  • Hard News: Hobbit Wars,

total threadjack, but what the hell - just nursing a lovely single malt after returning from Peter Hook's Joy Division tribute. Goddamn that rocked and not something I'd have ever expected to hear. I'd say everyone was left re-pining the loss of Ian Curtis. RIP matey.

Still a rock and roll show with a handful of Warsaw tracks to boot and the obvious choice to finish...good, loud times were had by all. Die die die did the business as well, kind of like Bailter Space sped from 33 to 45, or maybe 78 even. Nice one.

only couple of weeks till the modfather. it's looking quite the month really for an aging post-punk. huzzah.

  • Speaker: KICK IT! The Wee Fella,

what impressed me was how the Spanish defence pushed forward and compressed the play. the germans got caught up in a mire of players and seldom got the space to generate any forward momentus through long passes. it didn't help that as soon as they lost possession, every spanish player became a defender and either harried whoever had the ball or tracked a marker. it was impressive and skilful even if the result was rather stolid

as for what the final will look like, I don't expect anything to change. the spanish have done much the same thing in every game. but I think the Dutch will put themselves about a bit more and take it to them physically.

but what then? no more world cup, I'll eventually even have to take down me wall chart...woe betide.
