  • Cracker: Heroes and Villains,

Oh, and ups to the IRD. When one can get through to them (which isn't really the fault of the C/S staff), they always sound like they want to help you.

Yes IRD were very considerate when I mentioned my dilemma ( which involved late tax). They asked if I had a moment, why yes I replied. They asked a set of questions. I responded. They explained they thought I had been through a bit. I agreed. They suggested a break might be of help . I nearly cried. They informed me my tax would be wiped. I choked. I wanted a name to send a card of appreciation. They didn't know who to nominate, (it had never happened before) I pulled out my cards and posted a beautiful card (Diego Rivera),It was an image of workers rights with the sun shining. It felt most appropriate, it made my year :)

Terrorism is the greatest threat facing the democratic world.
We've been invited to their country, and it's tor their own good.

  • Southerly: Life at Paremoremo Boys' High,

Unfortunately that does not bode well for our chances of ending abuse against people or trees anytime soon.

True, and I must admit the Council knows it screwed up and the local paper knew it was wrong so ...small steps, but what I find sad is that, if considered, it is actually really easy to just care for neighbours, and trees and birdlife. (the nest in my palm is an absolute delight at the mo) and education should do that, as well as rugby etc. :(

  • Southerly: Life at Paremoremo Boys' High,

hmmm Can't think of any rugby obsessed schools there...oh wait... its !

I wonder how many do exist . The sad thing is, I remember that when I was at EGGS. Rugby was, then and now, one of the important aspects of the equivalent boys school. A student I know, recently changed said school to combat his differences (Football and Water polo being his interests), and the change has allowed him to flourish in other areas.
So David. Did you do Latin? ;)
P.S.Digression. I have been coming to terms with the ignorance of the community over my loss of an Oak Tree next to my lounge window and am truly amazed at people not wanting to get involved with what seems a fundamentally wrong event. So I am no longer surprised. Disillusioned. What do we learn from all our time at school?

  • Up Front: What Sixteen Is,

I can remember being at a party in Epsom 30 years ago when the boot boys turned up outside and half the partgoers were suddenly looking for places to hide their knives before the cops came. Was quite a suprise to me that anyone even had a knife!

Probably went to that one myself RaggedJoe, although the one in Epsom I was at, was, a police visit was due because someone had been stabbed. It became quite common for 1978. It seemed to be party/gig,bootboys, butch slags, stabbing. Are you going to the AK79 gig ;)

  • Up Front: What Sixteen Is,

just wondering if there is more that can be said and understood here on the subject of young men, young women, and casual threats (and irreversible acts) of violence.

Animal Kingdom?Survival of the fittest?Animals often remove the weak . Humans seem pretty good at all this as well. Although not as common, there is situations like the Manson murders committed by women.Considered to be on the extreme end of the spectrum.

Someone calls me a liar and a hypocrite, then you're not going to get a kiss on the lips and a bunch of roses. You will get a response.

Yes and one like nobody asked me, seems unacceptable for National when Helen was accused of misleading the public but completely acceptable for National when asked about 30,000,...50,000...or shall we say 100,000 Tranz rail shares. I made a genuine mistake. Yeah Right.

I can't see any logic for her support of Winston Peters and her refusal to have even vague confidence in the Privileges Committee, Owen Glenn, and the SFO.

Not wanting to guess any of this situation but one wee observation for me is, if this is refusal to have vague confidence, perhaps she has no confidence. I wouldn't want vague, some or guesswork on my conscience. I would want the facts. Incidentally I haven't seen facts
