  • Busytown: The shakes,

    Word swerve...

    Now what do I do?
    Keep insulting other's spelling mistakes
    or now leave it alone?
    Nah. Keep it up!
    We're picky pricks aren't we.

Indeed, come join us hangers-on in the secret hangar of

...about the fact that the Arts Centre glass was still there in one piece.

I think that might have been our green-house lookalike Art Gallery he was talking about... I did find it odd that they set up their CD centre in (and under) the soaring glass-lined foyer of the art gallery...

A friend who works out of the old chemistry building said that was the only undamaged one

I've heard that a few chimneys fell down at the Arts Centre
    - Great Hall chimney went thru roof apparently but the wood beams
saved it from more serious damage, and various towers shifted a bit...
I used to have an office on the top floor of Old Chemistry bldg (which they wanted me out of for some development that never went ahead, and has now sat empty for two years) It hasn't been earthquake strengthened, and I wouldn't have wanted to be in it during that quake, great to hear it survived okay though...

    canny...

The rising sun Edmonds symbol was a hint.
    subversion in every kitchen

    we keep our powder dry,
the people are sure to rise...

    Spring loaded...

There are thermal springs near Tai Tapu & Governors Bay.
I don't buy the extinct line.
I've heard of these, but never found 'em. Any clues!? A thermal spring would be a grand way to spend a winter's evening.

Hanmer Springs are not volcanic, heated by fault/plate pressure
as I understand it (so maybe not so reassuring)...

    Ticking off the boxes...

stashed inside a nice insulted box.

I must try this, what are the best insults to use?
    - "Chill out ya square!"
    - "Call your self white ware?"
    - "You are frigid dear!"

Well, the story of Albert the Otter was quite heart warming but my naive mind did not detect the promised erotica.

  • Southerly: Refugee Status,

The advice we've always been given to stand in a doorway or take cover under a table is still the best.

there is conflicting advice all over - I heard an expert on Radio yesterday saying the doorway was the best place to be, and then on TV another expert saying it was a bad place as you can be thrown about and hit...

    ...what to do?

I find the worst damage from freely dislodged masonry
is the apron slapping and regalia scratching...

SNAFU... status quo really - and I hate heavy metal!
we are all fine, but the Lyttelton Rd tunnel is closed apparently - they are saying take the Evans pass road via Sumner
    - don't think I'd be game to do that route...
as that last shock was centred near the port hills...

and I have to say the Martyrdom of Bob Parker is beginning to wear thin - he's going on in the paper (and on his extended Campbell Live Ad last night) about doing 20 hour days - but is not being a team player - he is only one elected official and he is not delegating to anyone else or sharing the load - the very thing that got him so unpopular - he just doesn't learn - a stretched sleep deprived mayor is no good to anyone...

But developer Dave Henderson forecast a massive financial boost.
Wait, I've heard that name somewhere before haven't I? Hmm...

    which one was it though?

    Cracking over the plastered...
Most of the bars in Chch Henderson's "developed" - but not strengthened I guess - Sol Square are seriously compromised and don't look like reopening any time soon...

    Plastering over the cracks...
Look for Henderson to follow the money:

"Anyone in the brick - or block-laying business, all their problems are over, along with anyone in construction or civil services."

    Hendo's Hod here we come...

  • Hard News: Little pieces of a big picture,

I hope that the fact that there are people owing their lives to red tape won't get lost in all this.

    and Gaffer Tape too...

but, yes stricter building codes have been a lifesaver for many - but that's down to processes not individuals...

though whoever signed off on building in Bexley and other high risk liquefaction areas may need to examine their motives...
